Bergdahl's Attorney Wants Him to Receive POW Medal | Military.com

The lead defense attorney for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl said he wants him to receive the Prisoner of War medal.

His civilian lawyer, Eugene Fidell, on Friday said his client should be recognized for the five years he spent in Taliban captivity after deserting his post in Afghanistan, according to an article by USA Today.

"We have long felt he was entitled to the POW medal," Fidell said, the newspaper reported.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Bergdahl's defense team plans to push for the award as part of the process to appeal his dishonorable discharge.

IMHO, his defense team best keep their mouths SHUT rather than risk someone finding a technicality that could/would reverse this abomonation of a sentence.
If I were in Bergdahl,s shoes, I’d tell these overly aggressive legals to shut up, cause he is probably extremely grateful for “time served” etc.

I have rethought this. Since Hillary did not get charged for her most numerous felonies, no one should get charged for anything.

I'm afraid that Trump scuppered any chance of a just sentence with his inane tweeting. Someone needs to explain to him the concept of sub judice. Better still, take his Twitter account away.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I agree with Matt for once. Why? Because I said the exact same thing about Obama when he politicized cases like George Zimmerman and nearly got a easy case of self defense turned into a framing of Zimmerman. The judge treated Zimmerman and his attorney like she was going to bite their heads off 24/7.

Presidents need to keep their noses out of cases that determine people's lives. Not doing such taints trials.

I like Matthew's juris of prudence jargon--it makes me dig in Webster's Unabridged. Is sub judice related to high crimes and misdemeanors?

Sir Richard of Nixon proved that even the el presidente is not above rule of law.

This is more than scupper--we have massive hull breaches below the waterline, fore and aft.

Time to sell stock in LG. (un-Lucky Goldstar of fools)

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Sub judice basically means you keep your trap shut until a trial is over and don't comment on it in a way that could be seen to influence the court. Particularly important when there is a jury but still germane when it is a judge on their own.

Five freed from Gitmo in exchange for Bergdahl join insurgents in Qatar, Taliban says

Gitmo-Five-Freed.jpg

KABUL, Afghanistan — Five members of the Afghan Taliban who were freed from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for captured American Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl have joined the insurgent group’s political office in Qatar, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Tuesday.

They will now be among Taliban representatives negotiating for peace in Afghanistan, a sign some negotiators in Kabul say indicates the Taliban's desire for a peace pact.

Others fear the five, all of whom were close to the insurgent group's founder and hard-line leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, bring with them the same ultra-conservative interpretation of Islam that characterized the group's five-year rule that ended in 2001 with the U.S.-led invasion.
