Barack's Imaginary Uncle, Bad Memory, or Bad Reporting?
So Barack Obama's uncle helped Patton's 3rd Army liberate the concentration camp at Auschwitz, which is a neat trick, considering that the 3rd Army never made it into southern Poland. It was instead Russians that liberated the camp, and if that wasn't embarrassing enough for the rookie Senator, his mother was an only child.

Still going on the assumption that his material grandparents knew how many children they have, it would seem apparent that his Kenyan father's side must have provided the uncle that helped liberate the camp, or Obama was lying on Memorial Day about his family's military service. Could he really be that dumb?

Something has to be off here... there is no way he would simply create an uncle. If his mother was an only child, then the uncle wold have to be on his father's side, but I somewhat doubt that Kenyan Luo tribesmen left Africa, and served in either the 3rd U.S. Army under Patton or the Russian Army.

As we missing something here, or is Obama blatantly lying about his family's military sacrifices in a Memorial Day speech?

A lie designed to win the Jewish vote, perhaps ? Seems like you'd have to be pretty stupid to say this, it's easily enough proven either right or wrong.

Unless, of course, his uncle fought in the Red Army, which would explain his anti-Americanism. We know it couldn't have come from his mentor, Dr. Hatewhitey.

Campaign says Obama mistaken on Nazi camp

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - Barack Obama's campaign says the candidate made a mistake  when he said a great uncle helped liberate the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz during World War II.

Obama said Monday that his uncle was among the first U.S. troops at Auschwitz. But Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet forces.

The campaign said Tuesday that he named the wrong camp. They said it was actually Buchenwald.

Aides said his grandmother's brother, Charlie Payne, helped liberate a Buchenwald sub-camp in April 1945 as part of the 89th Infantry Division.

Critics had been questioning Obama's original comment mentioning Auschwitz.

His great uncle did assist in freeing the people in a death camp. He named the wrong one out of the many that were freed. Big hairy deal!

If these types of "gaffs" continue, he will begin to top Al Gore's claim that he invented the internet and Dan Quayle's p-o-t-a-t-o-e. I say let him "gaff" all the way till November.

Some of my fellow Christians are apparently a real forgving bunch. :tear:

from the internet:

Description of Red Herring
A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue.
The basic idea is to "win" an argument by leading attention away from the argument and to another topic. This sort of "reasoning" has the following form:

Topic A is under discussion.
Topic B is introduced under the guise of being relevant to topic A (when topic B is actually not relevant to topic A).
Topic A is abandoned.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because merely changing the topic of discussion hardly counts as an argument against a claim.

More of the same cheap shot politics. Now the poor guy can't even make a simple mistake on the name of a prison camp.

As someone said in another post - "much ado about nothing."

I'm not what you would call a big Obama supporter, but I think he is being treated unfairly in this instance. The essential substance of what he said was correct, only the specific location was erroneous. It's the kind of mistake the most honest person in the world could make, just because we are all human. It's far removed from a made-up story about dodging bullets.

I am constantly amazed at the lengths people are willing to go to nitpick and find fault.

There are those who shoot right past all of the major flaws and problems of this candidate to attack the man instead of his policies.

Anyone who has ever spoken in public knows how easy it is the make a simple mistake.

I never cease to be amazed at the people who defend Obama. He should know whether or not he has an uncle.....

Senator Obama was correct about the uncle part(how many people refer to a great uncle as great uncle instead of uncle?). He just named the wrong concentration camp.

"Big hairy deal!"

AND JUST WHAT DOES THAT MEAN to your folicaalllly challenged readers? Is that some RADICAL LEFT WING conspiracey

Just a general, right wing sweeping statement here aimed at no individual specifically - if some on this board were as forgiving as they want others to be of BO things would really be different around here don't you think? Notice I didn't use the "Christian" card either.

Amazing how "If you were going to act like a Christian you would ..... always seems to translate into - because I am not that way and you are really lacking."

What ever happened to Gal. 6.1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault , ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted."?

Back to your regularly scheduled ranting>

I always have called my Great Uncles, simply Uncle So-and-So. Done it all my life. I am amazed at the nitpickiness of Obama haters.
