Bible Ban? CA Fast-Tracks Bill Aimed at Censoring Biblical Christian Teachings

"A California bill that aims to ban Christian books and resources which address issues of homosexuality and gender identity could pass in the California Senate as soon as late May, sources told CBN News.

Assembly Bill 2943 declares biblical books and Christian conferences dealing with biblical views on homosexuality or transgenderism as fraudulent under the state's consumer fraud statute. Ultimately, it would penalize those who share a traditional view on marriage.

"Whenever a pastor or a church or a para-church ministry holds a conference or an event or sells a book or video about overcoming same-sex desires or gender confusion, that could indeed be banned," Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, told CBN News.

"This is because AB 2943 is only triggered when money is being exchanged for 'sexual orientation change efforts,' and there is no exemption for religious institutions or religious material," he continued. "Could that include selling Bibles? Possibly, but not likely; much more likely to be targeted are speakers, books, and videos helping people get out of homosexuality and transsexuality."

Thomasson and Anne Paulk, executive director of Restored Hope Network, says proceedings to pass the law are taking place quickly in the state.

"AB 2943 has two state Senate committees to go through before a floor vote," Thomasson told CBN News via email. "But the Democrat legislators seem to be fast-tracking this, so the Democrat-controlled California State Senate could pass AB 2943 as soon as late May."

Paulk, who oversees about 60 ministries that work to help people overcome unwanted same-sex attraction and gender identity issues said the intent of the bill was always toward the Church.

"There is a lot of power in California and they are wielding that power," she said.

"Both Alliance Defending Freedom and Liberty Counsel have spoken out on AB 2943, and are likely to mount federal lawsuits if and when it passes," he said. "Such a lawsuit could take three years to get to the US Supreme Court and its success would very likely depend on one or two unconstitutional, liberal judges retiring or dying. The high court's votes have to change, and we need at least four judges who vote to accept the case since the court has repeatedly turned down taking cases like this."

Paulk warns that the Church needs to wake up and take action.

"It is an essential part of the Gospel and we cannot surrender it," she expressed.

Thomasson adds that it is critical for pastors and church-goers to call their state senators.

"If people can meet and greet each other during service time, they can 'meet and greet' their state senator via voicemail and learn that serving Jesus Christ also means loving and protecting their neighbor's religious freedom," he said.

"SaveCalifornia.com urges concerned Californians to publicize via their social networking and other efforts what the anti-religious freedom Democrat politicians are doing," Thomasson added.

"Everyone who believes in God needs to protest this bill by calling their California state senator (we have action steps at SaveCalifornia.com)," Thomasson shared. "SaveCalifornia.com urges former homosexuals and former transsexuals to open their mouths and publicly say that counseling to overcome sexual bondage is needed more than ever."...."

This is clearly anti First Amendment as well as anti religious freedom.

But there is also this part: fraudulent under consumer protection laws? Like a product being sold?

2020 - depending on the presidential election we will probably see the long awaited hate crimes initiated with the Bible being put on the Index of Forbidden Books.

Additionally pastors, priests and rabbis will be imprisoned for speaking against matters/people of the LBGTQ persuasion.

I've read a lot of fiction where the Bible is banned and the open practice of Christianity is forbidden or sermons have to be run past government agencies for their approval. It's beginning to look like fiction may become reality.

Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Indeed HD4U, and in many counties the bible is banned and/or Christianity is indeed forbidden.

I agree: Come quickly Lord Jesus.

I agree it's likely to happen on the Left Coast and Northeast. That ain't never gonna happen in the South, nor will it happen in Appalachia, the Rocky Mountains or Midwest.

I can just picture some government goof coming into the mountain town my parents live in, where folks open carry handguns and Bibles, and telling the residents they can't be Christian anymore. Ha! Boy, I'd pay to see that. Wouldn't want the 'ol boy hurt of course, but maybe some sense knocked in him should he refuse to recant.

Politicians are so out of touch. Plop one down in "flyover" country and they'd wet themselves.

If there were no First Amendment providing institutional separation of church and state, then it might be possible for religious freedoms to be lost at the whims of the President or Congress. But it is extremely unlikely for that to happen as long as we maintain the First Amendment.

One of the ways we maintain the First Amendment is to not call for exceptions to religious freedom for everyone, like a number of "Christians" have done regarding Muslims. If they are successful at saying that Muslims cannot worship the way they please, then it opens the door for society at large to claim Christians, or just certain Christians, do not have the right to worship the way they please.

That's why when you hear of a "Christian" calling for "Muslim bans" or fighting against the building of a mosque, you can know that they haven't really thought about what they are doing.

In 1973 the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were taken away from the most helpless of human beings who are totally dependent on Law Makers, the medical profession and now the mothers themselves.

(1) Prior to the 1973, Roe v Wade decision, abortion was legal in a number of states, including many states along the southern east coast (the Bible belt).

(2) The reason why abortion was legal in those places, and after the Roe v Wade decision, is that unborn children were not considered persons until they had reached a certain age of development, or were born, so they were not protected under the Constitution. It's the same kind of flawed reasoning that goes into the idea that non-citizens in our midst are not protected under the Bill of Rights.

(3) Roe v Wade hinges on the premise that there are many different ideas as to when an unborn child becomes human, so the Court deferred that decision to the conscience of the mother and her doctor, finding that they had a right to privacy in that decision where neither the government, nor any outside party, can interfere.

Nuff said.
No, not really. The issue of abortion does not connect at all with the issue of First Amendment rights, although it does connect directly with the idea that the government bestows rights on individuals and that they are not "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights," as the Declaration of Independence states. The Founders of this nation believed that rights came from God, not government, and that the government is simply recognizing what God has done.

But that's another discussion.

Murder is Murder whether at a State or Federal level. No rights are sacred now that murder has been legalized.
when a human life is devoured by a meat grinder or poisoned in the womb then ALL of the Bill of Rights/Constitution is denied that individual.

Let the reader decide.

I disagree. Just because the Supreme Court has not recognized an unborn child as a person doesn't mean that they do not recognize already born American citizens as being covered under the Bill of Rights.

The key words in your statement are, "...that individual."

However the existence of abortion on demand does not mean that religious liberties protected in the First Amendment are irrelevant to the court.

Let the reader decide.
I'm quite comfortable with that.
