Bible Baptist Tabernacle Church/ Controversy

BBTC is an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church here in Monroe, NC. It was my Mom's Church for over 30 years until she passed away last year. One of my cousins is an associate Pastor there. The locals here call the Church "Tabernacle."

I suppose everyone has heard about the controversy earlier this year when Pastor Leonard made his famous remarks. It's very unfortunate that this occurred. Pastor Leonard is a fantastic person loved by all who know him. I see him very often around town here and there. Always a pleasant smile and concerned of your well being, both physically and spiritually.

The congregation understood the general point he was making, and he does get carried away at times in his preaching, but when something like this reaches the lost world, nothing good can come from it.

He admitted he was wrong as he should have. I don't want the Church world to look down on Pastor Bobby, he is a God loving, people loving Pastor that preaching hard on sin.

My Mom thought the world of him as many others around here do, including myself.

Oh brother

Yes, he was wrong in those comments. How long will he be crucified for making a mistake?

Some can't handle the preaching of the old days, when what he said is true, women wore dresses and not short shorts and mini-skirts.

People and fashion change for the worst in most cases, as society generally goes, but God hasn't changed.

I'm not taking up for his mistake, but I know who he is and the burden he has for the lost. Hard preaching is difficult for even the Church to swallow.

Two types of forgiveness.

Under the Law.

Mark 11:25-26, And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

And forgiveness under the New Covenant.

Hebrews 8:12, For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

The religious and yet lost condemn themselves by not forgiving others.

But those who are saved through faith in the finished work of Christ. Freely forgive others because of being forgiven in Christ.

"Preaching hard on sin" can take the form of actually preaching what God says about sin OR can take the form of opinions/deductions of man on what constitutes sin. This brother crossed a line in his thinking (he would not convict a rapist if woman "indecently" dressed - there is NO excuse for a man raping a woman even she was walking around nekid) and that has sad ramifications on his church and reputation.

(Aside: Have had Christians tell my wife she was going to hell because she wore slacks, an attitude typical of many IFBxx'ers)

Yes, I agree the IFB's are very strict and get carried away with it, to the point of embarrassment and shame.

But LOL, we have upgraded to culottes for the ladies some years ago.

There is no excuse for rape. My Granny used to say "You dress like a whore, don't be surprised if you get treated like one.". That old lady was wise.
