I am sorry to disagree but in my view as the governor of the feast said "this is good wine" I believe this was alcoholic and delicious.

Pointing out inconsistencies in an argument is not taking it off topic.

Jesus drank wine. I dont like wine so I drink beer. Wine in Jesus time was alcoholic wine. That is why Jesus said you cannot put new wine into an old wineskin. It stretches as it ferments and the skin is only able to stretch once.

In His first miracle Jesus made Wine from water. the host of the party commented that the better wine was brought out second. How do you improve the taste of wine? Age it through the fermentation process.

Abstince from alcochol in moderation is a muslim teaching that is not compatible with Christianity.

I noticed other threads on this same subject. It's not my intention to make this another 14 page topic. The Lord Jesus Christ did not make alcoholic drink and there is no verse in Scripture that says that the Lord Jesus Christ ever drank a drop of alcohol.

Everything I want to say here is in this study by Bruce Lackey, if you are interested in reading it click here>>> The Bible and Wine by Bruce Lackey

Thank you all for your kind answers, many good points were brought up on both sides of the issue. It is my conviction that we are to totally abstain from alcohol as a beverage, I have to follow my conscience guided by the Holy Ghost through the written Word of God. Besides that, when I joined this local independent church, I agreed to abstain from the use or sale of alcoholic beverages in this day of increasing apostasy and compromise.

"Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is." What is the Lord's will? "Be not drunk with wine..."

This means do not even BEGIN to be drunk! If it takes you 12 beers to get drunk, then if you have one beer, you are 1/12th drunk!

    God bless!

I've heard that argument before and it's just plain silly. [IMG]

A person is either drunk or not drunk. If a woman has been pregnant for 2 months is she pregnant or only 2/9ths pregnant? [IMG]

Murph[/QB]</font>[/QUOTE]Wow Murph, I didn't expect you to agree that the wine in John 2 was alcoholic. Do you think Jesus was creating a situation in which others could be offended or stumble? Was Christ avoiding the "appearance of evil"?

Brian as usual you are the one who is inconsistant. Contrary to your view I feel that in a thread that is talking about abstaining from drinking to switch it over to eating and gluttony is going off topic. Please refrain from doing so.

He may have, but in your rush to accuse my stance you forget that he is God. How many times have you pledged that you search the restaurant to make sure no brother is in sight before you drink. If you are capable of doing theis then surely God is more capable. I think more likely he was in a situation where his mother begged him to make wine much like all of you who flaunt your christian liberty by continuing to drink. Once again according to you drinking is perfectly alright so how could he be appearing evil. Never forget one thing He is God and you are not.

So are you saying that Jesus only made wine because His earthly mother badgered Him into it? Also, His disciples were also there and they saw what happened. In fact the Bible says that this miracle of turning water into wine showed His glory and resulted in His disciples believing in Him(John 2:11).

Actually, Optional, all I've done is shown that my Strong's concordance does say that "sober" (nephaleos) means a variety of things, including "abstaining from wine, either entirely or at least from its immoderate use."

Other than that, I haven't said a thing.

This wasn't directed at you. I appreciate your input.
However, my Strong's says it exactly as I quoted. No mention of anything at all to do with sobriety.
    Wonder what the difference is?

    p.s. Is yours # 3524?

Nonsense. If I fall out a 12th story window, I will be dead. Does that mean if I fall out a first-floor window, I'm 1/12 dead?
