We shouldn't expect the same things to work for both. There is room for your own judgment in police work, within parameters. Or, obviously, should be given the seriousness of the issue of distrust between many people and their police forces.

The officers involved showed excellent judgement by giving repeated warnings to the assailant. They did not fire until he charged them. The fact that he literally fell at their feet tells me they almost waited too long.

I, for one, don't want them to take a knife in the guts to satisfy people like you. I want them to go home to their families in the same condition they were when they put on the uniform.

It was a completely justifiable shooting. You just need to get over it.

That "rule" has other factors that can influence it. Like the situation itself, number of officers, etc..
Given another officer there to assist do you remain convinced that an alternative method could have been attempted?
The number of officers doesn't lower the lethality against one. in other words, if they would have tried to subdue him, who's to say he wouldn't have killed one before getting subdued? Even if there were 15 officers there, he had a knife. He could have gotten one before being subdued.
There just seemed to have been little logic going on, right down to following the "rules" and cuffing his body despite the high tensions.

The streets are not part of the military and officers are not soldiers. We shouldn't expect the same things to work for both. There is room for your own judgment in police work, within parameters. Or, obviously, should be given the seriousness of the issue of distrust between many people and their police forces.
They use their judgment. They used it soundly. They performed admirably. To look at this as anything but perfect police work is poor judgment on the viewer's end. This was excellent.
