One traditional and one blended but mostly contemporary.

BG --- Sorry, lost in translation. Can you say again?

 

We have a blended worship style... the music is a mix of traditional and newer songs, our presentation includes hymnals and on-screen aids, our ministies include choir but also drama and solos/ensembles, and the pastor *sometimes* preaches without a tie. Some would consider this modern, but when shown side by side with a real "contemporary and modern style" the difference is apparant.

Some pertinent Scripture:

Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not;

God does not change, mans need for God does not change.

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

It appears that some of the stuff called worship these days is reminiscent of the response of the Jews to God as recorded by Jeremiah. Jesus Christ tells us:

John 4:23, 24
23. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

 

I use powerpoint every Sunday morning, some Sunday nights, and most Wednesday nights. I also use handouts on most Wednesday nights.

Once again, music is blended...but my preference is contemporary.

We have two services each Sunday morning. Our "traditional" service is traditional across the board (including music) and includes standard liturgy -- Lord's prayer, Doxology, Gloria Patri and a common confession of faith - usually the Apostle's Creed. Our "blended" service is a mix of hymns and praise songs with less liturgy. Of course, the sermon is the same at both services.

 

Agreed. the Object (the divine Audience of One) of our worship should never change. In our church, styles do change; the One being Worshiped does not.

In our church, we praise God in many ways--new, old, and ancient.

I'm glad you're happy with your church. I'm happy with mine.

And we'll sing together in heaven one day.

Until then, we'll agree to disagree on styles.

Sorry Rbell. That simply makes too much sense. Isn't it better and much more fun to argue about the WAY we worship rather than ministering to others??
