A good question, Ps104_33. Anyone who watched the debate on Saturday night and/or watched Mr. Barr's appearance on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" this morning is aware that he has rejected the busybody conservatism that he used to somewhat adhere to.

Bob Barr is now basically the same as Congressman Ron Paul in his political positions.

So why is Bob Barr going to get anymore traction that Ron Paul?

A good question, Pastor Mitchell. I believe that Ron Paul received over 1,000,000 votes from just the Republican primaries. How many people voted in the Republican primaries? I would guess about 15,000,000. There will be well over 100,000,000 voters in the general election.

Plus I figure by this fall that those who want limited government will understand that Senator JSM III will make government larger in all areas, not smaller.

I think McCain will as well. I am wondering if you would be willing to sacrifice limited government to what you see as a good policy on Iraq?

Fortuinately, with Bob Barr I get what I see as a good policy on Iraq and limited government. :)

Even if Bob Barr gets only 6% of the vote that would be a huge amount for a minor party candidate(almost 6 times more than Ed Clark got in 1980), give the Libertarian Party permanent ballot status in many states, and be a great springboard to 2010 and 2012. :)

Another area that the Barr candidacy could help is down the ballot in local races.

I know but since you supported Obama at one time it appears inconsistant seeing he is for big government. And did you not make mention of supporting a national health care plan? I don't remember that for sure but it seems to be a correct memory.

I read today that no Libertarian presidential candidate has ever pulled in more than one percent of the vote in a general election. Third parties typically don't make it, but if they get enough traction, some of their positions get adopted by one of the major parties. The way I view it, it is trying to influence policy and platform planks of the two majors rather than holding any real hope that a Libertarian will gain the White House.

Yep. I am home. I hate dealing with cognitive dissonance when it comes to voting and political support.

I think in 2012 that I will wait until after the Libertarian Party convention to declare for whom I will vote. Too many folks are coming in later to the race than what I expect. I got caught by surprise by the entries of Ron Paul and Bob Barr.

Ken, what other possible person coming even later than Barr into this contest would you consider to be a better candidate than Barr?I haven't checked the Constitional Party as I am now entering this.
