"Surely there must be some other reason then for the symbols of Islam to be the crescent moon and stars. Archeological and historical evidence should not be considered."

It wasn't until the Ottoman Empire conquered Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453 and adopted the city's existing flag and symbol, that the crescent moon and star became affiliated with the Muslim world.
That's 8 centuries after the founding of Islam and adopted from a conquered Christian nation.

    Isaac and Ishmael,

Are both the seed of Abraham.

Isaac is the heir of the promise to Abraham--Ishmael is not--he got a different blessing.

The religions which have come from these two sons of Abraham are both apostate.

The New Covenant, Jesus Christ, the I AM THAT I AM in the flesh, is rejected by both Jew and Muslim. Jesus is still an imposter to the Jew and just a prophet to the Muslim.

Jehovah and Allah are not the same--they are not even related. See Exodus Ch. 20. See also the life of Mohammed--the founder of Islam.

    Selah,

    Bro. James

The problem with the moongod theory is that 8 century gap, between the time The Arabs worshipped among others a moongod and the moment the Islamic world started to adopt the moon as it's symbol.
On top of that Robert Morey (the originator of the moongod theory) is a bit of a fraud.
I'll let the moslims defend themselves in this case.

Van Natten ofcourse isn't an expert in the field, still he seems to have a reasonably clear view of at least some of the issues.
I found this link on his site interesting.

The Two Faces of Islam - The House of Sa'ud from Tradition to Terror written by Stephen Schwartz, published by Doubleday.

Secular viewpoint and chronicles the growth of the most radical elements that were once a small minority but now have grown into the ruling voice of Islam. Brings some understanding to the differences between the Sunnit and Shitte factions of Islam.
