Sordid industry doing some good for a change:

Liquor manufacturers around the country now making hand sanitizer

"Inside Litchfield Distillery are tanks and barrels normally used to create consumable alcohol - vodka, gin and bourbon. But for the time being, the owners there have dedicated their services to helping the public and are now creating hand sanitizer."

"Litchfield Distillery...has become one of several liquor manufacturers around the country trying to help fill the sanitizer void. They’re producing gallons of liquid sanitizer and providing it free to those who need it most....[Having] suspended production of consumable alcohol...the distillery has added a second shift of workers to keep up with the demand."

Yeah, I was wondering how this ethanol base could be effective like isopropyl but apparently ethyl alcohol in pure form works well for cleaning but isn't normally used because it is highly regulated and has to be denatured so that people will not drink it.

Can I make my own hand sanitizer?
There are no studies supporting the effectiveness of homemade hand sanitizer...
The hand sanitizer I am making is stronger than any store brand I've seen. The store brands are typically 70% strength isopropyl alcohol and mine is 91% strength and I use less aloe vera as the second ingredient.

Experts agree that the best method for cleaning hands is washing for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.
I can't always make it to sink after the chance of being exposed such as opening a door to a store, or using a gas pump and heading back into my Jeep after. Then there is the issue of using a contaminated sink and turning off the water with a contaminated handle after washing your hands.

From Johns Hopkins, also:

To help lessen the spread of the new coronavirus and COVID-19, the disease it causes, here are important steps to help protect your and your family's health.

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly, using soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water aren’t available.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or flexed elbow, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick, sneezing or coughing.
  • Stay home when you are ill.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that people frequently touch.
  • Only wear a face mask if you have respiratory symptoms or are caring for someone with respiratory symptoms.

How Can I Protect Myself From Coronavirus (COVID-19)?
