Imprisonment is not an alternative between the two?

I'm not against prisons, but I don't recall jail, prison or any other type of confinement being mentioned as a method of punishment by God. Being that you are so careful to follow the scripture closely, does this create a problem for you? Do we either release them or kill them?

I do not believe that it is possible to improve on the way God has laid out things. If we as a nation followed His standards for punishment of crimes we would be way ahead. However since we have decided that we know better then He does, prisons are what we stuck with. If you think about it they are foolish as they cost the tax payer money to support the criminal but if we followed the standards of the Lord there would be no prison costs to the public as the criminal pays for his own crime in the manner the Lord has provided.
So I am in favor of following His standards for punishing crime, but stuck with following man’s standards.

What would be your preferred punishment for things like larceny and possession of a firearm by a felon?

Personally I believe we should use the Lords punishments for crime. I do not agree with the firearm law as they just add costs to the tax payer to house these people and do nothing in the end. I also believe it violates the constitution under the right to bear arms. In fact Texas believes they are not right as a felon can own one once they have completed their sentence, but federal law superseded our state law so it is still illegal.

As to someone who is a thief the Lord calls for the thief to repay the one he took from and add 20% if the person admits his wrong.Lev. 6
If he does not then he would pay 3 to 4 times what he took from the person.
If he cannot pay then he should be forced to work and pay that way. EX 22

In the case of breaking a gun law that would be against the government and not a personal issue with no loses so the person could be fined or horse whipped, but prison is not the answer based on scripture and it also adds unnecessary costs to the people.

I missed the reference to being horse whipped in Scripture.

Could you provide the chapter and verse?

The bible talks about using a rod. I simply used the term horse whip. A rod is fine as it does the same thing. Actually the word for rod is a club. Proverbs 26:3 is a good place to look.

How come you forgot to mention "...on the day of his trespass offering. 6 And he shall bring his trespass offering to the LORD, a ram without blemish from the flock, with your valuation, as a trespass offering, to the priest." ?

No it means I do not respond to peolpe who twist things. Read your bible. It is better then an apple a day.

Twisting would be taking half of the verse while disregarding the other half.

That is what you are doing and it is plain to see by everyone following this thread.

I gave you three little laughing faces because you seem to like them so much.
