Ah flatus! Another reason for not having amplification in the pulpits! It just may have an effect on the p-ews.

Cheers,

Since when was "disruption of a school function" an arrestable offense? When I was in school it meant a visit with the principle, in school suspension, or something like that. I think this proves that the "zero tolerance" in our schools is way out of hand.

If you want an interesting read on this I suggest the book "Zero Tolerance: Resisting The Drive For Punishment In Our Schools". Ignore the fact that it is a "liberal" book that was edited by William Ayers (among others) and focus on the very silly things children are being criminalized for in our public schools. I am sure there are other books out there on this topic if one does not wish to purchase a book edited by William Ayers. I purchased the book about two years ago (long before I knew who Ayers was). It is an interesting read even though you, like me, may not agree with every point.

In my days, some 75 years ago, disruption, of any sort, called for the rod. A long, very flexible rod that rapped across the knuckles with bold accuracy. Then to-day, the masters are not permitted to strike the pupils, are they?

Cheers,

My how things have changed since I was in school!

Corporal punishment was commonly dealt out for class disrupters: Also for homework which was repeatedly not turned in: Once for a kid who had the same 20 spelling words every week for four weeks and still could not spell a passing grade of 75%. Chewing gum after being told to spit it out and not doing it in class also got the paddle. A fight between two boys? Well, the teacher would monitor it as long as the fight seemed fair and balanced in strength and the boys were not choking or hitting the face nor the flanks and spleen area..... then, once exhausted they were hauled off for investigation and paddling. If there were a concern for safety, unfairness, or inequality in matched strength, the male instructors might be called from class to assist the break-up and the offenders disciplined in the principals office: There was never a thought to contacting a parent before discipline: We kids knew what deportment was expected of us and our parents would get either a note by us telling them what happened.... or via mail if the child refused to take the note home. Parents accepted the teacher's or the principal's report and there was never a thought to challenge their authority that I'm aware of. How things have changed! It was a school in a farming community: Body functions were the joke of smart-ass boys getting laughs from their male peers and blushes and disgust from the ladies in their class. Flatus release was sometimes deliberate and common with the guys with a partisan release of laughs and jeers, while the ladies hid our faces or made awlful faces and eyes to show our disapproval..... which served to egg them on....no doubt.

An instructor might give credance to the purposeful disruption by assigning guys to corners of the room where they could move their desk and continue to participate in class.... or to the hall with their desk where they could hear through the open door..... or the principals office ...... or the coaches office...where they were likely given janitorial duties or a workout of ball field runs. Most often, however, flatus release brought a brief pause with few giggles and jeers and a quick return to the lesson.

'Course, this was a 'country' school and the diet was rich in collards, turnips, beans and peas, biscuits, eggs, cornbread and sweet potatoes..... all the good stuff that is both healthy and naturally gas forming. I pity the poor kid who is undernourished but fat nowadays, who comes to school and the flatus he has is from the sodas he drinks.

Arresting for this is excessive hot air and over inflated show of power!

Didn't address the computer issue:

This is a bit of disruption...... but where is the teacher which allows this to occur? If she is on hall duty or must leave the classroom..... then take the kid with her...or pre-plan a worked out agreement with other faculty who will monitor him when she drops him off 'til she 'picks him up' on her return to class. Or move his desk away from other students, into a corner where any movement on his part will catch her eye!

You don't gain discipline by leaving it to others: And because no one person may have all the answers, when nothing is working, consult with others and find out what works for them and what hasn't worked: Whatever the circumstance, never give in after the first time and a warning (if this is appropriate to the occassion), or boundaries will continually be pushed.

Word to Martin: Just because a person has either authored or edited a book, doesn't mean there is no useful information inside: No book should be read without some critical thinking...... because even the most trusted authors or publishing companies can still let slip disinformation or information which is neither doctrinally or scientifically sound.

I've often wondered the same thing when a student gets busted for taking the vitamins his mother packed in his school lunch.... or a young lady takes a Midol for cramps, or a kid has a 2 inch knife packed in his lunch for the steak and apple cut which his loving mom packed. ......While it could have serious intent behind it.... we are on dangerous ground when there really is no crime..... but the crime is that of possibilities or thought crime. How can one lead a society to be the best they can be, when they are being conditioned through the disciplines and rules of the school to be suspicious and distrusting of each other and treated as though they have criminal intent. It is frustrating when one hears of the kid who has done well, and has been no problem with behavior, get busted over the lapse in a parents judgement when packing their lunch..... when this too often seems to be the case. The kids who are behavioral problems are usually the ones who successful sneak in contraband and then causes harm or disrruption, but the kid who did not know mom packed his vitamins..... or that the prepacked lunch meant for the ball-game or park was the one he picked up for school..... should have an 'innocent 'til proven guilty' instead of automatic suspensions or refusal of promotions, or a permanant record made of his faux pas.

For this reason, I also believe schools should be smaller and within the communities which they serve: In the country, here, years ago, if a school was too small to offer all the daily instructions or courses available at larger schools, we had 'visiting' teachers, music teachers, speach therapist, etc. who would come on certain days to offer more specialized instruction which was more commonly available in larger schools. The same could be done today to keep the schools within the community.... if the school would be too small to support the fullness of ciricullum with full time instructors, so that students stilll have exposure to skills and knowledge.

AMEN and AMEN !!!!

The DOE, IMNSHO, is one of, if not the most, successful adaptations of satan's strategies to modern man.

Generations are being duped into all manner of non-Christian values, as the masses beg for more.

Hopefully the rapture is just around the corner!
