My dad and I have an amazing relationship!

I just wanted to brag on this sermon he preached last Sunday.

What Faith is and what it is not.

If I understood him I think he is speaking from a strictly Calvinist position. That means I do not agree with him in regards to this message as it removes any responsibility from man. If God just pumps faith into us when ever He decides then there is no reason to believe the scripture that we can grow in faith by what we do, but in fact we can.
I think he has misunderstood Hebrews 11:1 about what it is saying as well as Eph 2:8-9.

The natural man can have all the "hope so" faith until he becomes constipated, but it is as worthless in getting the attention of God.

It is the height of pride and arrogance for fallen sinful man to consider they can at their own will and timing be saved.

God has never worked on man's timetable.

For a son to brag on the father is outstanding! As a father of a now well grown son, I am embarrassed by his praise, because I know how very frail I really am.

This can also be a place where we can brag on our parents.

My dad was the smartest man in the world when I was a child. He became dumb, dumber, and finally the dumbest the older I got. Then one day, I was mature enough to see through his eyes. And from then on, the absolutely most smart and insightful man I have ever met was my own dad.

I miss him now, but will soon fellowship together, again.

As far as being lost, man is sinful.

All men are sinful.

It is part of their fallen nature to sin.

Fallen and saved are responsible for all have sin.

The condemnation and penalty of sin has been purchased by the blood of Christ.

To the believer there is "therefore no condemnation..."

To the unbeliever there remains certain judgment.

Some Calvinistic thinkers would hold that there is within each person a faith which, when placed under the illumination of the gospel, has then the ability to believe.

I do not see that in the Scriptures, for then salvation rests upon man's ability when it is abundantly clear salvation rests totally upon the unmerited favor of God.

From man's view, that may present God as unfair.

But, it is God that knows the heart of every person, and God that purposes who is to be saved.

Some would say, "Then God purposes some to be lost."

No, mankind is already lost ("condemned already").

God decides to save some is according to HIS "grace" (unmerited favor) and has nothing to do with station, wealth, culture, intellect, ...

I placed my own thinking and why it might be divergent from Calvin's thinking.

Permit me to ask. Should a man, any man trust God for his salvation? If the salvation of man is not totally in the hands of God rather than man's response to something that God did then the coming of Christ was for naught.

If man has a responsibility in his salvation it has always been the same.

God created Adam put him in the garden planted trees and said choose. We know how that worked out.
God led his people out of Egypt carried them to a mountain gave them his laws and said choose. The people said all that the Lord has said we will do. The Old Covenant. Well we know how that turned out.

Now you are telling me God sent his Son. We hung him on the stake. God raised him from the dead to life again, and said, Choose???

How do you think that will turn out?

...are you really that cold and callus? I wish my Dad were still alive so I could see him every day and tell him I love him..., but I'm sure you'd stand in opposition.
