Hey, CTB - you know what the problem with that cartoon is?
Isn't it even remotely possible that those congressmen/women were actually representing the will of the people in the districts/states they actually represent?
And if it is possible, even remotely, then shouldn't we be congratulating congress for actually working for the people who elected them, rather than publishing a political cartoon that vilifies them for the cartoonist's personal political views?

That "large majority" consists of "a random sample of 1,013 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia." So they asked roughly 20 people in each of the 51 "states".
That's not a majority by any means.
And if you will bother to read that entire polling page, the support is not nearly as unanimous as the headline writers would like people to think.

I have heard about new math, but making 90% a minority is really stretching it.
It certainly is not a minority that support registration.

I think you missed my point, which was - a poll of 1,000 people out of 250 million adult Americans in no way represents a "majority". And we would be well served if politicians stopped voting by polls and voted as true representatives of the people which they did in this case.

90% one of the silliest things Obama has said. He like to create narratives out of thin air to convince others who would otherwise not be convinced. The most dishonest President in history.

Not only was the remark categorically inaccurate (obviously the President cannot prove that every single gun owner in America supports universal background checks) his comment over-simplifies the polling he was likely referencing. The only recent public poll taken on universal background checks was taken in only three states — Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut — all three of which are generally considered “blue states” and are states Obama won in the last two presidential elections. The poll was not taken on a national basis, so it is impossible to know if all or even a majority of gun owning and non-gun owning Americans support universal background checks.

BREAKING: New USA Today Poll Shows Support for New Gun Bill Now at 49% – NOT 90%
If you’re tired of hearing the Obama administration parroting poll numbers that say 90% of the American people support an expanded background check bill, you’ll be glad to hear that a new USA Today poll has found that support for the passage of ANY new gun control law is between 45-49%, down significantly since the first of the year.
One has to wonder if the change in public opinion has to do with the strong efforts of the NRA and GOA to educate the American people about what the current laws actually are, what new laws would actually do, and on firearms in general.
These numbers come on the heels of a Gallup poll showing that only 4% of the population thinks gun control is actually an important issue.

I posted a section from the article YOU provided a link to that states the senators actually did vote the will if the people. Apparently the facts don't agree with your opinion, either.
When a committed zero follower buries his head in the sand he naturally gets his eyes full of that same sand and is therefore burdened with a very blurred vision of facts.
So addicted that he refuses to even consider any contrary options than mandated by the DNC.

Background checks are fine I guess, but does anyone really think this will prevent any crime? It will just end up being a layer of government for already law abiding citizens. Perhaps focusing on being a responsible gun owner, couldn't hurt and bound to more effective then forms and red tape.

Poncho, we are talking about the Senate voting down background checks, not about taking your guns away.
How do you feel about background checks?
If you believe that's where it stops, your head is further in the ground than you realize.
