This is hardly gossip any more than discussing the California state budget is gossip if you life in Georgia.

Church budgets are not private confessions. They are business documents, and having real-world discussions is helpful for clergy and active laypeople.

One of the great advantages to a discussion forum is that it allows baptists - who generally live in separate little bubbles - to find out what other baptists are doing. I get the impression from our brother in Scotland that such discussions are not considered appropriate where he comes from, but I can think of very few baptist gatherings where church budgets haven't come up.

While I say it very quietly lest anyone overhear me, I agree with Joshua. To me, this is more a matter of the principle church budgets (which are not secret documents anyway). Besides, this church has not been identified. Who knows what church it is?

    aman Pastor Larry,

I originated the question for a particular reason I wanted others ideas about the % of monies in the various areas they put it to see if this is normal or were my concerns real. I do give them money this is why I wanted to make sure that where I join, I think I need to feel good about the way they use the money I give. I know they will answer to God for misusing it but I think I still need to be pleased with the way they handle themselves with the money. This is the only reason I posted the question. All business meetings I know of, all of which are Baptist, have an open door policy, if they didn't I would be suspecious or less likely to be a part of that church. One Baptitst Church I visited never had a business meeting and as far as I could tell, no one knew what was done with the money except a select few. I think the corporate misgivings we have seen with enron and the like can easily happen in our churches if we don't openly conduct our business. During this particulor business meeting I mentioned in the original post, one man wanted to go on record, but not as a proposal, and why not I do not understand, but he sugested that they reserve some money for an outside auditor of the churches finances. In some situations this might be a good idea, especially if a member suggested it. I think it helps all of us if we are accountable to others, it helps us stay on the straight and narrow.

    God Bless
