    Prove it.

Whether or not he did it is not in question. He has announced it to the world. He knows it's legal.

Since you don't think so, prove it.

Then you probably believed Richard Nixon when he was on the national media telling us, "I am not a crook."

Innocent until proven guilty Ken. The burden of proof is on the accuser. Remember, you want to defend the constitution.

Yeah, poncho, I reckon we know now who on this board would have supported Richard Nixon all the way until he boarded Marine One to finally leave the White House in 1974.

President Bush violated the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act by bypassing the special court set up to authorize eavesdropping on suspected terrorists.

Next major terrorist attack and all of this bickering, debate, or whatever, including our Constitution is out the window. We will be under Martial Law where there is enough military.

Otherwise, it will be every man/woman for himself/herself, just like it was in NOLA.

Better load up on ammo and stock your food, water, and necessities.

Hopefully, for the GOP/Dems, we will have our national ID cards in imbedded computer chips in our right hand or forehead before that happens, so they will know where to "find" us if we are in need of assistance or dead, so they can find our bodies.

I'll willingly take the chance that we can be secure just as much without violating our God-given and constitutional rights as we can be by establishing a dictatorship to keep us "safe".

I will remind you ,however, the President has broad executive powers during wartime.

Not true. You want me to prove he didn't break any laws. That's a negative.

The burden of proof is clearly on you.

As poncho said, "go get 'em ,Tiger." He'll probably even help if you ask, since he's "with you all the way". ;)

Hey old man KenH, I was only 6 or 7 at the time so you will have to exclude me from that one.

The courts only have the power they have today because the legislative and executive branch allow them to have that power. There are 4000 killed daily in America, yet nothing is done about it, we are told to simply wait till the "conservatives have control and change the courts.

4,000 get killed in a terrorist attack, that could have been prevented without the Patriot Act and without ignoring the US Constitution, and we have "conservatives" who are in favor of trashing our Constitution and giving the federal government more power to give them a false sense of security.

"September 11 happened in part because Americans naively trusted their government to protect them. To conclude from 9/11 that the government should be more sacrosanct is among the worst possible lessons that could be drawn."
    --James Bovard

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."
    --James Madison

It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from the government."
    --Thomas Paine

This is where your argument falls apart Ken. Hardely the establishment of a dictatorship. If the press can reprot this, than we don't have a dictator. Let the press try to report on a secret in Cuba!???

The only powers the President has is those given to him by the US Constitution. The same Constitution that says there must be a Constitutional Delcaration of War, there was no declaration, so the President using his "broad executive powers" at this time is unconstitutional!

I would assume that those supporting this current abuse of power would have also suppored Lincoln's abuse of power when he was arresting hundreds of news reporters to silence thier speaking out against his administration.

Wrong, wrong, wrong! I can't remember the name of the case (can you help me Lady Eagle) but in one particular case the scotus itslef granted itself the right to declare a thing constituional or not. It gave itself the power to nulify a law. So the court has and is taking power not granted to it in the constitution.

And the Constitution gives both the Executive and Legislative branches of government the tools needed to put the court back in it's place, but they have refused to do so on most important issues. The courts can't enforce their rulings, that is the job of the Executive branch, they may point their fingers at the courts and blame them, but they don't have a problem enforcing these unconstitutional rulings. They need to ignore any rulings that are unconstitutional and enforce only those that are constitutional.

Bush scrapped the version of his weekly radio address that he had already taped - on the recent elections in Iraq - and delivered a live speech from the Roosevelt Room in which he lashed out at the senators blocking the Patriot Act as irresponsible and confirmed the NSA program.

What Bush is saying is, Congress won't pass the Patriot Act to let me trample the US Constitution, I will still do it on my own through the NSA.
