******The spiritual condition of most churches is evident long before a business meeting. The majority of people sitting in the pews each Sunday never lead one person to Christ in an entire lifetime. So what does that say about the spiritual condition of the majority of members?**********

That's true, but I guess I was thinking in terms of how much do the members agree and disagree. Not only in the business of the church, but in the ministry of the church. The problem with Christians is that they don't agree with each other on important issues and even worse than that is they don't agree with Christ.

Here is an interesting story from the history of the church I pastor... We ARE in the backwoods lumber country of MI... and I have had the story confirmed and reconfirmed by oldtimers who knew the individuals personally...

Old timers remember one very heated business meeting. During a discussion, Richard Curtis set fire to Tom Phillips long hair with a candle. Mrs. H.C. Gordon threw her big apron over his head and quickly put the fire out.

I also have no problem defending my family, congregation or myself if I cannot resolve a conflict in a calm non-violent manner. I do not initiate violence myself.

Here is a chuckler from a church in our fellowship. Pastor Bob resigned from the church after starting it and pastoring there 20+ years. However, before he left he told the deacons to be sure and follow proper procedure for carrying on the business of the church while without a pastor. He specifically told them to consult "Robert's Rules of Order." Later one of the deacons called Bob and asked him a question about business order and Pastor Bob told him to consult "Robert's Rules of Order." They knew nothing of a book about business rules, but thought he was referring to his leadership example as "Robert's rules." [IMG]

Ah, "Roberts Rules of Order". Where would we be without it. Probably scuffling around on the floor of the sanctuary and doing drop-kicks off of the pulpit!!!!!
