The choir I was singing in performed what is called the Singing Christmas Tree. Where the choir puts on a musical where there are children singing first then the Adult Choir and Orchestra do a Christmas musical which last year was three days long. The problem was that people who no longer was in the choir was asked to sing solos etc while those who have just as great a voice was ingored which was offensive to them because they were faithful coming to all practices etc.

By the time the last note was sung it felt like you had been hit by a mack truck because practice starts in August and continues until the performance.

The only thing I was not accustomed to was at this church the choir basically sang with the congregation from the platform and rarely did chorales or other things until the choir members started complaining. I feel the choir should do a couple of choir numbers separate from the congregational singing.

What was also different was that they only had two female soloists that ever put feelings into their parts. The rest it seemed they were there to entertain. I was asked to do the solo for "I Bowed on my Knees and Cried Holy." To me this is a powerful song and must be sung with feeling.
I was told that the church and even the choir had never responded like they did that day. I am not bragging. I just think people should sing unto the Lord and sing to bless others not entertain.

Bro. Curtis, Well... their music brings back fond memories for me. I've never heard of any of the people you listed.

I'm happy that you get to do something for your church with your music.

We don't sing to people...we sing to serve and worship the Lord. And that my friend is why we don't applaud at our church but say Amen.

Oh I didn't mean I didn't like Seals and Croft, but they had slipped from my memory, and I had forgotten they had a mandolin. I've become something of a music snob in my old age.

"Summer breeze, makes me feel fine....."

    Ah, the '70s.

Wisdom Seeker: I am glad you don't clap. I have heard it said that in reality you are clapping unto the Lord but in the case of the church I was talking about it did not seem we were clapping unto the Lord but for the choir and the soloist.
