don't believe a word from the communist Chinese government.

Murky waters:

The Alarming Scope of the President's Emergency Powers

and now that idiot governor of Pennsylvania is going to claim to use the state police to enforce "our" rules:

Gov. Wolf: ‘We will use the state police to enforce the rules we put into place’

It's scary how much power these people have. I happen to like Trump but would have freaked out if Obama had done the same thing under these circumstances - never trust the government, never.
Like others on this site, I shirk at our government having broad powers, and I certainly do not believe China, anything they say. In America, we are a republic and cannot selectively uphold the laws we agree with. We should voluntarily obey our laws. We will not get this pandemic under control unless we work together and obey the CDC.
I was in the Philippines in July, 1968 when the Hong Kong flu hit. It killed 500,000 people in Hong Kong eventually, so many people that there were mass graves dug and covered up. It quickly spread over Asia, including Manila in the Philippines and then crossed all the large and then small islands, killing mostly old and sickly. Hong Kong and Manila are two of the most densely populated cities in the world. (Hong Kong today has 500 people per acre).
Coronavirus is no where near as contagious as measles and small pox, which is airborne, and probably not as contagious as Hong Kong flu when it first emerged, ( It eventually mutated and downgraded to a lesser threat), Coronavirus can not be stopped, just like the Hong Kong flu, but it can be slowed down enough to stop the overwhelming of our hospitals, doctors, nurses, and healthcare system, If we do not slow this new virus, it could be like the Hong Kong flu, become overwhelming, and then our frontline troops, which are our doctors, will have to choose who lives and who dies, We have to obey our government, all stick together, or surely there will be terrible consequences. I am not trying to be an alarmist, but I have seen first hand what a pandemic can do when people become stubborn.
Churches should discontinue shaking hands and hugging. They should discontinue passing the offering plate, where hundreds of hands make contact with the plate, opting to let everyone drop money into an open box in front or rear of the church. One virus doctor estimated that 69% of yearly flu is caused by shaking hands and hugging, and other unnecessary social contact. This practice endangers the old Chritians in churches. Pastors have a responsibility to protect their flock. I am not embracing panic and paranoia. I am simply reminding pastors of common sense approaches that could help protect their flock.
I see two things going for the Chinese,
#1 When they are told to separate they do it.
#2 It seems the majority of them are wearing masks. (Not quite sure why our experts aren't considering them more.)
Okay, and #3 They could just simply be lying and this will come out.
And it better not be #4 The rest of the Chinese people just happen to be immunized before it got to them.
Concerning the Chinese wearing masks I just read that what makes them the most effective is that they do a good job stopping asymptomatic transmission. That makes a lot of sense. We should hurry and make a huge supply of masks and make in mandatory to wear them in public.
Masks work only if used correctly. Each time they are installed the user must wash their hands and each time removed, hands must be washed again before touching the mask. The user must have mask sealed properly, by blowing with mouth and checking for air all the way around the seal. One mistake actually increases the chance that germs accumulate on the mask surface, increasing odds of infection. Observing the way Americans are presently behaving with arrogant negligence, please do not hand out any masks at present. I am shocked that the CDC does not have enough masks for our doctors and nurses. It may be a blessing there are not enough masks for the population.

As a CHRISTIAN, I believe in a Holy, Omnipotent, Eternal, Sovereign God who reigns from Heaven above with Wisdom, Power and Love.

Cov-19 is under control of the God I serve, if He decides to kill off 1 or a Billion (or yes, even me), it is of no consequence to me (Yes, I love my fellow man and pray for them and yes even share the Gospel w them). God controls all. If God decides that we die, then so be it; I am at rest w the plan and Providence of God (to demonstrate less is unbelief).

Even the Mark of the Beast is under the control and subjugation to God, so there is no since in getting all up in arms about it (to do so would be unbelief).

Bottomline, if you are a Christian, Trust God at His Word and leave it up to Him.

If you are not a believer, Turn to Christ

What? The Chinese complied only with guns pointed at them:

Would China's Draconian Coronavirus Lockdown Work Anywhere Else?

They must be the blooming idiots to have a jackboot government like that. Newsom's order is about toothless, and he knows it. I still doubt there will be 20M Californians infected, that would have over a million of them dying. Maybe.

Personally. I don't mind Trump's suggestions, because they're just suggestions. Even the left should worry about these kind of edicts, what's to stop Trump from declaring martial law and trying to suspend elections?
People mistake our Constitutional rights for Freedom. We have specific rights. Its a long held legal standard, dating back to the times of the founders, that we do not have the freedom to put others in jeopardy. The right of one person to pursue happiness is tempered by the right to life of another person.

If there was an unlimited supply of masks, then that would be the recommendation. As it is, there are not even enough masks for health care workers.

Surgical masks are not designed to keep things from coming in. They are desinged to keep the surgeon's coughing and sneezing from contaminating his/her surgical field. But yes it also keeps blood splatter and other fluids from getting in his nose and mouth. But viruses travelling in droplets will easily travel around the gaps on top and the sides of the surgical mask and most people tend to not wear the mask properly and touch their face more with a mask on. Surgical masks should be prioritized for people who are sick and coughing so they don't spread covid19 to others.

N95 masks that are designed for industrial/construction workers to prevent occupational dust inhalation and can also filter out viruses but need even more training to put on properly than surgical masks. They really should be reserved for heatlh care workers.

If there is an overabundance of masks, then yes, everyone should consider wearing one.
N-95 is not very hard to use. They are not idiot proof, but fairly simple.
I personally use p-100. I switched to p-100 with charcoal backer and n-95 pre filter about 5 years ago.(welding)

In general I agree but I also think the benefit of using masks would outweigh the poor use.

Each time they are installed the user must wash their hands and each time removed, hands must be washed again before touching the mask.
Absolutely, to use a mask and then touch your face while installing needs top be addressed, but again not into throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

The user must have mask sealed properly, by blowing with mouth and checking for air all the way around the seal.
This is false. The N95 mask in question does not cooperate this way, I have used them or very similar for 30 years and have box full in my shop right now. This mask has a vent in the front for easier exhalation. Now, one without a vent you may be able to blow hard enough to check the seal but that is doubtful, you have to go by feel. I do have other 3M rubber masks I use during lacquer spraying that check the seal that way. But that is not the kind of respirator mask they or I am talking about.

Observing the way Americans are presently behaving with arrogant negligence, please do not hand out any masks at present.
I don't buy into this slippery slope argument.

I am shocked that the CDC does not have enough masks for our doctors and nurses. It may be a blessing there are not enough masks for the population.
They simply were not prepared for this event but I believe it should be a top priority to catch up with these masks. It is no blessing that we don't have a few billion masks to flood our populations with.
