I have to agree with you. Federal subsidies in California for the poor are massive in terms of food stamps, medical aid and federal aid to education. A lot of Californians must be employed in the administration of federal welfare to illegal immigrants. And also the California prison industry must be going all out taking care of the criminals that Mexico helps get to the USA.

Probably, Mexico is too smart to want California back and I imagine that Spain would renounce their claims to the old empire, also.
