California officers charged in death of man in custody

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors charged seven California Highway Patrol officers and a nurse with involuntary manslaughter on Wednesday in connection with the 2020 death of a man who screamed “I can’t breathe” while multiple officers restrained him as they tried to take a blood sample.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced the charges in the death of Edward Bronstein, which the LA County coroner said was caused by “acute methamphetamine intoxication during restraint by law enforcement.”

Bronstein, 38, was taken into custody following a traffic stop on suspicion of driving under the influence on March 31, 2020. He died at a CHP station in Altadena, north of downtown Los Angeles, less than two months before George Floyd was killed by police in Minneapolis as he, too, repeatedly told officers, “I can’t breathe.”

Looks to be way overblown with the DA charging everyone with everything he can.

The "nurse" is apparently there only to take blood samples and is not trained on emergent first aid so they can't do anything. Not sure why they're being charged.

As for the officers, they were restraining a drugged up patient. Patients on drugs routinely are aggressive, make false statements and are noncompliant. The perp caused this by deciding to do drugs, drink and then resist officers.

I don't know what the DA expects for the officers to do. Just let him go? Let themselves get punched in the face? Get spit on? Let a drugged up man, full of alcohol loose on the streets? I hope a bunch of police there quit.

It’s a leftist area run by leftists, so perhaps it should be no surprise that they would go after even those who were not directly responsible. I would say more, but wouldn’t want to give them any ideas.

My brother purposefully refused to join any police force in Leftist areas that don't support police. So the younger generation of police officers is aware of it too. I bet there's going to be an even worse shortage in leftist areas.
