A study of Paul's use of the word call.
1 Corinthians
1. What is the gospel to those who haven't been called?
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a ___________, and unto the Greeks ___________; But unto them which are ___________, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:23-24)
2. Is everyone called?
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that _______ many wise men after the flesh, _______ many mighty, ________ many noble, are called: (1 Corinthians 1:26)
3. What is the brethren's calling that Paul is referencing?
God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the ___________ of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:9)
4. Why isn't everyone called unto the fellowship of Christ?
For the preaching of the cross is to them that _________ foolishness; but unto us which are _________ it is the power of God. For it is written, I will __________ the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to _________ the understanding of the prudent. (1 Corinthians 1:18-19)
5. Why does God want to destroy the wisdom of the wise?
For after that in the wisdom of God the ________ by wisdom ________ not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. (1 Corinthians 1:21)
6. How does God's choice of who He call's destroy the wisdom of the world?
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to _________ the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to __________ the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to __________ things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of _______ are ye in Christ Jesus, who of ________ is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:27-31)
Romans
1. Who does God call?
For whom he did foreknow, he also did ___________ to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did ____________, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. (Rom 8:29-30)
2. Why does God call anyone?
What if God, willing to shew his __________, and to make his __________ known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his __________ on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath __________, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? (Romans 9:22-24)
3. Why does God want to make His wrath, power and glory known?
For the ________ of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be _________ of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal _________ and Godhead; so that they are without __________: Because that, when they knew God, they __________ him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. (Romans 1:18-21)
