What happened to the teaching that any church founded by a man/woman is necessarily false? Jesus promised: "On this rock I will build My Church; the gates of hell shall not prevail against her."

He has kept His promise.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Paul.....this is off subject (perhaps it should be discussed elsewhere) but I am concerned with this Calvery Church movement. Bottom line, do you endorse them?

Endorse, probably not! But, I have fellow-shipped with their folks; liked the pastors as we all attended local ministers meetings; sat in many services; had quite a few of their people join churches I was pastoring, and I found them fundamentally strong in the scriptures, especially when it cam to their testimony of re birth! They love the Lord as much as any others I have known, and they are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and help in any way they can to make the ministry they are members of, to be successful for the Kingdom! They are also extremely strong in street ministry, prison ministry, homeless ministry, you get the idea!

They used to be centered on getting people to Jesus, but over the years, in order to hold on to their sheep, they have developed strong teaching in the area of growing in Jesus.

Their only flaw, in my eyes is the manner in which they run the business portion of the church! They don't hold annual business meetings, and are reluctant to share their budget, both incoming and outgoing funds! Still, the are definitely a church that practices tithing and gifts. Most of the CC I know, don't build a church until they can purchase property and have the land and building paid off!

They also believe in the pre trib rapture of the church!

What are your reasons for not trusting them?

Not sure what your complaint, if it is a complaint? is about! I have attended and served in many SBC fellowships that have "founding" pastor(S).

In the heart of this merger, is two denominations in a quid pro quo situation! They are both in need of something, and I am sure they looked closely at any differences they might have scripturally, and resolved them! I have to trust the SBC conference!

Greg Laurie gets more opportunities to hold revivals and campaigns, while the SBC is adding 15,000 plus, believers to the base! Both win! It should be a good marriage! IMHO!

SMH inquisitively!

Not to forget Shadow Mountain Community Church in San Diego, which affiliated with the SBC.

Even the bizarre cults are established by God for purposes of separating the wheat from the chaff.

So....God who knows the future from the past and is sovereign over all, needs to create bizarre cults so that on Judgment Day he will know how to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Yup, that's strange theology.

When does God "need" to do anything?

What is strange is your efforts to understand God and judge him by your own definitions. You place yourself on the throne and demand that God fit your image.

they tried to plant a church in my town & then abandoned it. I viewed some mistakes ....very charismatic, endorsing tongues etc.

I can assure you that what or who that group was, it was NOT Calvary Chapel. They DO NOT PROMOTE TONGUES. Just like people who identify with something they are not, this was more then likely a "knockoff" CC.

YOU do not have to worry about tongues. A lot of folks leave CC because they have found the gift of tongues, and are not permitted to practice that gift in the congregation.

In an effort to retain members, some CC's have started afterglows at the homes of members, where the charismatic gifts are permitted, those gifts do not make it into the general body of the church.

You're the one saying he creates bizarre cults to separate the wheat from the chaff. I guess that is a recreational thing involving puppets.

What is strange is your efforts to understand God and judge him through the lens of Calvinism. You place yourself on the throne and demand that God fit your Reformed image.

Please return to the topic. If you want to bicker about Calvinism, take it to the proper forum. And dial back the insults.

I went to a Calvary Chapel in Chicago. That specific church was very much outreach oriented, but it was completely unprepared to deal with grief and death with congregants. There were very few older members and the young members had little to no grasp of serving the grieving in their church.

One minor point: New Testament Churches do not belong to men/women.

There have been churches(?) started by: Constantine and his mother, Henry VIII, Martin Luther, John Calvin, etc., etc., etc. reformed, reformed and reformed ad infinitum. How is apostasy reformed? All you get is reformed apostasy.

Which ones still have a candlestick? See Rev. Chs. 2 and 3--the Seven Churches of Asia.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
