Can a Baptist be Charismatic?
Yep. And I was sooo relieved to find out I was not alone.
Ever been to a praise concert? Everyone there is just praising Jesus, a bunch of strangers (maybe several thousand people) from all different denominations and all different stations in life, all bound together with one common bond - we are brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ and are praising Him! The Holy Spirit is there and everyone is getting blessed out of their socks! It is a glimpse of heaven.

I feel sorry for people who have never been blessed out of their socks. I actually pity you. And it's pretty ignorant to compare the presence of the Holy Spirit to the BeeGees, as well. If you've ever been in the Presence of the Holy Spirit, you would be filled with reference and awe. You would consider it blasphemy to compare His Presence to the BeeGees.
Can you be a Charismatic Baptist? Apparently not. Some of the Baptists around here show no charisma at all, let alone love for anyone. It's no wonder so many Baptist churches are empty and never see the Power of Almighty God in their services. With all the Baptist churches in America, there is no reason for America not to be evangelized. Except if this forum is a sampling of the other Baptist churches that are out there, it is pretty self explanatory and sad.
I'm very blessed to be a member of a SBC that has a pastor and members who praise the Lord in worship and are caring and compassionate and not so full of self righteousness that they look down on the other denominations in the community. Our pastor says we are to love the Pentecostals, the Nazarenes, the IFBs, all who name the Name of Jesus Christ. We just recently had revival services that lasted 21 nights. When was the last time you ever heard of a Baptist church that had a revival that lasted more than 3 nights?

Again, due to the autonomy of the local church, I guess it is possible. But, I think the better question would be, shoud you be? I would say no. But that is just my opinion, which I am sure will be duly pitied by the more pious and blessed among us.

Well funnily enough I'm sure the Bee Gee world tours were extended at times due to popular demand. Some of the man made revivals that are rife with emotionalism and seeker friendly gospel messages will always be more popular than the churches that preach the truth of needing to repent and be saved due to our depraved nature.
It is indeed a shame that some of the baptist churches are empty nowdays but it really is of little surprise. Churches are filled with wishy washy programs and ideas and sermons that have no biblical substance whatsoever. The churches that are faithfully preaching truth week in and week out are suffering in many palces. Should I feel "love" by the churches that are tickling my itching ears by telling me what I want to hear?...Or would the church be loving me by actually preaching the sound truth. I know which I'd rather.
What I see is this....
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
I'm not saying that there are not sound fellowships out there with large congregational numbers because I know for a fact that there are. But I do honestly believe that the closer we get to the last times, people will become less likley to want to hear the truth but instead would rather be entertained in "church"
Just look at the many programs and gimmicks that churches worldwide hav introduced. Some of them are good but many are simply easy believeism ways to increase numbers and whats the best way to increase numbers?....Tell people what they want to hear....water down the gospel message, introduce worldy ideas into the church so that the change isn't too drastic, and find multitudes of other ways to walk the line of compromise.
Have I ever been blessed out of my socks? Sure I have. Has it been during a worship service? Sure it has. Then I realised the truth that the whole reason for worship was to praise God and not to do it to make myself feel good. If I want to make myself feel good thats easy. Our human egos are easily inflamed...I could sit down and play the guitar and quite easily bless my own socks off. It's sad that the responses of some of the members of this board are so fueled by the current trend today to be led by emotions and worldly hysteria.

In 0ctober,1998 the Georgia Baptist Convention tried to pass a resolution against Charismatics. It failed by a few votes to have a majority.
This says that many believe that there is room at the Baptist table for Charismatics.
In Southern Baptist circles Florida is the only sate convention that does not have room for Charismatics.
The issue in other states seems to be that each local Church sets the standards as to who they will accept or not. Autonomy is a basic Baptist right and responsibility.
