Can Satan read our thoughts?

Here's my take on this. Angels are capable of entering a person's dream state(see Joseph's dream concerning Mary). Therefore, it is logical and possible that this is something Angels and Demons can do, and it is possible that they can therefore read our thoughts. Scripture doesn't say either way. My experience is that whether or not demons can read your thoughts, they can definitely whisper thoughts into your ears and heart.

Yeah like in the old cartoons (I'm telling my age here) where you see the Angel on one shoulder telling you to the right thing and then the little devil guy saying to do mean things.

This is why I believe we are told to cast down imaginations and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. :flower:

2Cor 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Why not?

What would be the harm? We can't fight the evil one in our own strength anyway.
We are indwelt by the Holy Spirit as believers. Read the parables in the Gospels about the strong man...
Matthew 12:29 How can someone enter a strong man's house and steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.

Mark 3:27 "On the other hand, no one can enter a strong man's house and rob his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he will rob his house.

Luke 11:21
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his estate, his possessions are secure.

One thing that can help you discern the Lord's voice is by reading the Bible a lot and to memorize scripture. It is possible to memorize entire chapters and books. I have known dozens of people who have done it. This can help you get used to the kind of things God has said, and it helps to 'hear His voice' in the scriptures to be able to recognize what is from God. Also, pray for a discerning heart.

If you are hearing voices in your head, you seriously need to talk to a doctor.
Or be delivered from the demons which torment you. ;) Either one, depending on whether it's mental or spiritual...or both.

Hold on theres nothing wrong with XDX!
I also heard something this AM and it was confirmed in the Word. Satan can and will attack you through your thoughts! Fight back with the word of God XDX~ like Jesus did in Matthew 4:1-11

Matt 4:1-11
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

BTW, if the devil could read our thoughts we would be in trouble big time! Think about it. The best we can do as Christians is to keep our minds on Jesus.

Phi 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Phi 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Or if you can't do that...
"Keep your mind out of the gutter."

No, we should hear the voice of God in our head. We also hear our own voice and the voice of demons (or the devil). We need to discern which is which, so that we can follow the right voice!!

All these are "silent" voices, or thoughts.

The thing is to follow the voice of God only!!

Peace,

Tam

When I start hearing voices in my head, my wife will TAKE me to the shrink!!!!

The devil does not enjoy the attributes of God.

I don't see how that parable relates to the evil one reading the mind of the believer... The evil one doesn't have to subdue the Holy Spirit and take over the believer to read the thoughts of a believer.

No, but the devil is far more powerful than most people can imagine. He's not merely an invisible person running around, he and his horde are very active trying to get Christians to fall. And they can whisper little thoughts in your ear.

Methinks we give far too much credit to the devil, and take too little responsibility for our own fallen nature and evil mind. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.

Oh, I give plenty of credit to my fallen nature and evil mind. But I also know that Satan and his horde are more than capable of whispering to me different things. They've sat on my shoulder more than once or twice. I'm an ex-pagan.

Well I thank the Lord and Praise the Lord He is bigger then satan. Old slooth foot always tries to trip us up and try to get us in fear by messing with our minds. I'm so gald

2Tim. 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Old slooth foot knows if he can get us to doubt then he can get a foot hold. Why is that??? Because...
Rom 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

So grab the bible and read it when you feel your mind is being attacked.

Heb. 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. :applause:

We know our own thoughts - and hearts - which are desperately wicked. So satan shouldn't find it difficult to make a good guess of our thoughts and hearts. Maybe satan is right there where ego sits enthroned.

The key word in those passages is enter. In order to enter (mind, body, etc.) they would have to subdue the Holy Spirit, so yes, the evil one would have to bind the Holy Spirit (stong man) to enter his mind.
