Some times God uses statements of others to show us people's true colors.... apparently denomination loyalty is more important than a person dying and going to Hell!

Some are going to be in for a real surprise when they get to Heaven, and find other denoms there.

It is not just Landmark IFBs. It is some IFBs no matter what. Anyone who is not like them must be wrong...

Nothing new about that... Pharisees, Sadducees, Zealots, Essenes, and ??? (I forget the fifth group around in Jesus' day) were doing the same thing 2000 years ago.

It will not end this side of His Return...

(did anybody notice that avoided getting into an eschatology debate by not saying "this side of the premil pretrib rapture" -- we can debate that another place, of wait, a bunch of us already are... still... again... y'all are a bunch of idiots if you do not believe the same way I do on that, too!)

Yep. That's the SPIRIT. Nope, should have used all LOWER CASE -- that the spirit, because whenever personal attacks are launched and maintainded, it is prolly not of God. IMHO, no just IMO. Not as humble as I should be...

The more I learn the more I realize that the fundamentalist church I grew up in was really on the permissive side.

Oh, come now. This criticism is very out of place. The IFB movement is currently the only American church movement in which the missionary force is currently growing. I have heard this stated, and I can prove this from statistics in Japan, if not elsewhere.

Concerning Missionary Baptists being IFB, they are and they aren't. If you will check their history, they began in 1950 as the North American Baptist Association, changing their name later to the Baptist Missionary Association (BMA). (This info is from the Handbook of Denominations in the United States, 6th Ed., by Frank Mead.) Unlike the typical IFB church of whatever group (GARB, FBF, SBF, BBF, WBF, etc.), they did not begin specifically as a protest against liberalism. On the other hand, each church is very autonomous, so they are in a sense independent Baptists. However, they have little to do with the rest of us in the IFB movement.

Having said that, I did attend a BMA church missionary conference once. The other IFB missionary I went with bugged out before lunch and left me lonely. So at lunch I got into a discussion with a BMA missionary who attacked me for "not going out from the local church." He took a salt shaker and said, "This is my local church, which is sending me out." Then he took a pepper shaker and said, "This is your board, which is sending you out." I took the salt shaker and lined it up with the pepper shaker and said, "Don't take me out of my local church, where I am still a member and which claims me. I am going out FROM a local church and THROUGH a mission board."

That quieted him for awhile, until he said, "Well, everything ought to be done THROUGH the local church. That's Biblical." So I pointed to his Bible and said, "What kind of Bible is that?" He looked inside and said, "Um, it's a Cambridge." I said, "That isn't a local church, is it??" Argument over! :D

I appreciate all the great info you have, John of Japan.

What Ive always heard about Missionary Baptists is that they are very much of the mindset that anyone who is not from their church is not right....this includes other Baptist associations and fellowships. From what I understood they are adamant Baptist Briders....so they will agree that others can be saved, but that they are not in the "bride of Christ" unless they go to a Missionary Baptist church. (Broad, general statements....I know there are exceptions to everything under the sun.) [IMG]

Based solely on that I would warrant a guess that it is the "missionary baptist" part of them rather than the "IFB" part that caused the comments.

Anytime we do something God wants us to do we will be critisized. The devil hates it when we win someone to Christ.I guess I would be suspicious of the work I was doing if I was'nt critisizes by somebody.

God bless you and your fellow co-workers for following the Great commission.

Sounds to me like some of these have their Biblical hero as Jonah! Only went to save his own sorry neck, preached all of eight words , sat down in the shade, and was mad at the Lord when when some were actually saved, and upon seeing the change, was angry that the Lord didn't "Destroy 'em all!" and wished he'd have died rather than seen some of those undesirables right with the Lord, 'cause he didn't like 'em in the first place!

Second possibility - How about just pure durn' lazy jealousy?

    In his grace,
    Ed

You know, Bill, if I had listened to the critics I would never have come to the mission field and never have stayed here! That's where we just have to keep our eyes on Jesus, amen? [IMG]
