Cannibis for Medical Use??

I read in the newspaper this morning before I went to work and there was a section about "cannibis"which is illegal, and those who need it for medical use like glaucoma or Multiple Sclerosis. I do know the best way to handle those diseases is through legal drugs like Lumigan (an anti-glaucoma medication) or Coxopane....but what if someone has to use these cannibis and they were stopped in traffic...Policeman finds these drugs, and thinking they were drug abusers. If the doctor says the cannibis is fine for those diseases, would the doctor be guilty too, or would they all be innocent?
I'm just curious, that's all.

They would all be innocent!

Cannabis should not be legalised for recreational use. Yet in the case of Terminal Illness it can be an effective pain reliever. It also can help with appetite.

Yes, I agree. If medicines can be gleened from marijuana, then it should be legal to use for that purpose.

Have you ever gone to the dentist for a filling?

Did you have novocain?

It's a derivative of cocain and I thank the Lord every time (yes every time) I sit in the dentist chair for modern medicine.

Under the supervision of a licensed doctor ALL of the addictive drugs are legal for medicinal purposes.

Considering the amount of resources governments waste on a drug that is about as destructive as alcohol, I'm all for making it legal.

As destructive as alcohol? I used to smoke alot of pot in my youth, and I can tell you from first hand experience that by comparison, marijuana is harmless.

I think it should be legal for medical purposes as well.

It seems the reason it isn't is because of it's reputation as a recreational drug. So what??

If you've ever suffered through chemotherapy you know how sweet it would be to have some relief from the sickness.

It is quite legal for medical purposes in Canada, and I must confess, I am of two minds on it. I have seen so many who claim it and I am sure they just like it...it is a poor excuse when we have so many other medications available, and these same people refused the cannibis in pill form.......strange!

Cheers,

Jim

By the way, actual case in Canada under current laws,,,,the driver using merryjuana is guilty of impaired driving.....they can use it medically. but not whilst in charge of a motor vehicle.

Regarding brain damage, it is perfectly legal to consume nutra sweer and that is rumored to cause those types of problems when taken in excess.

Or so it was supposed to have been found in rats anyway.

The point being that in the case of a person who is in pain with a terminal illness, Long term brain damage is unlikely to be a consideration.

Paracetamol tablets cause your stomach to bleed internally, most medicines have some type of side effect in any event.

The topic is not just about those with terminal illness, but recreational use. Now who wants brain damage for recreation?

It's assumed that the use isn't going to be long term.

In cases where it would be used for medicinal purposes, the greater issue is life or death, not minor side effects, which only occur through sustained use over a long period of time.

I'm all for the legalization of pot all around, although I think that it's recreational use is a bad idea and is off limits to Christians.

I always feel like I have to make this disclaimer when I post this on a Christian board:

POT CAN BE DANGEROUS AND WE SHOULD DISCOURAGE IT'S USE AMONG OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILES. MY SUPPORT OF THE LEGALIZATION SHOULD NOT BE INTERPRETED AS CONDONING IT'S USE. MY SUPPORT FOR THE LEGALIZATION OF POT IS STRICTLY POLITICAL.

Now, that having been said, some of you here know my history with pot and that my experience taking care of my dad when he was dying is the reason I feel so strongly about this.

My dad was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. He was given six months, tops, and went from a strapping 220 pounds to a frail, emaciated 150 almost overnight. He lost so much weight that he couldn't sit or lie down comfortably because his bones would poke through his skin.

The doctors had him on every medication in the book and he still couldn't eat or sleep and he was in constant pain. One night, a family member and I asked him if he wanted us to get him some pot and he finally relented and agreed to try it. This was a little awkward because the only way we could do this was to admit that we had smoked pot, ourselves (but that's another story).

He started sleeping well, the pain was greatly reduced and he put several pounds back on.

There are people out there as bad off or as worse as him and the medication they have today does nothing for them. To have something that can help and then make it illegal is just cruel.

Xspurt that I am, Is it cannibis or cannabas? I have seen both, but it seems to me it is cannabis......then it could be cannabas.aha..the plant genus is cannabis; the hemp plant,,,a plant producing hallucinations...Perhaps its medical benefits is just that, an hallucination.

Cheers,

Jim

Mike your story just breaks my heart. I'm so sorry your father had to suffer so! I've heard of poor people who are not able to afford enough pain killers to rid them of pain.

My thoughts on the use of pain management during terminal illness is that we should do everything we can to alleviate the pain. Since life in ending anyhow, there is no worry about dependence!
