I am glad you posted this thread, Salty. I think that shepherd's pie is what I will serve for Christmas dinner. If folks don't like it, they can go to Waffle House and grab some grub. My 88 year old mom is a great cook, but if she does the holiday meal, it will take 2 weeks to clean and straighten the kitchen. She trashes the kitchen in just making a sandwich.
