In an interview with HuffPost Live’s Marc Lamont Hill on Tuesday, former President Jimmy Carter sounded off on the issue of same-sex marriage on the heels of last month’s Supreme Court ruling declaring bans on same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional.

Carter took on the issue from a Biblical perspective and declared that it was his view Jesus would have approved of the gay marriage.

“I believe Jesus would. I don’t have any verse in scripture,” Carter said. ‘I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage, but that’s just my own personal belief. I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else.”

Carter is creepy but what he believes is that it is okay for some other man to be another man's wife but Jimmy Carter himself excludes himself. What is good enough for another man is not good enough for Jimmy His Royal Self. You see, the Golden Rule does not apply to progs or modernists who don't care for people in the ditch. Jimmy just doesn't have a verse of Scripture but Jimmy thinks that same-sex sex is OK. Do you think that Jimmy Carter is THE Anti-Christ?

Poor Jimmy, it's too late for him to go down as the worst modern American President.
No matter how hard he tries he'll always be second runner-up.

This is precisely why I hate the whole "What Would Jesus Do" nonsense.

The question shouldn't be "what would Jesus do", because that puts us in the place of imposing our will on God.

The question should be, "what did Jesus say". And, in this case, what Jesus said was a resounding and emphatic "NO" to homosexuality and the homosexual redefinition of marriage.

Carter was, is, and will always be, a buffoon.

Carter was a well meaning, but misguided, incompetent dunce.

Obama is a malevolent troll who manages to be both incompetent and evil.

He's like the Frank Burns of presidents.

Not necessarily. He's got the title for "Worst Ex-President", what with his constant commentary and criticism on things both foreign and domestic.

I don't understand the logic that would lead to such a statement.

I'd say the logic came right after that line, with "What did Jesus say?" Rather than guessing at what Jesus would do (which might be seen as assigning His behavior according to how we think He would react to current events), we would be better off obeying what He said as recorded in the Book.

Answering that question in no way implies anyone is guessing or do anything different that what is found in scripture. In fact it drives one to go search the scriptures to see what Jesus would do.

Carter took on the issue from a Biblical perspective...
Oh really? From a biblical perspective? He's the same guy that says Mormons are Christians too. I wouldn't trust him to declare what the Bible says despite the fact that he has been a Sunday School teacher for 60-some odd years.

This is just completely anti-biblical. Even the 1970s Carter would have argued with the above. Now people will cite him as a Christian who goes along with the SC decision. This is just so sad, frustrating, and, unfortunately predictable. How many other "Christian" leaders will join the chorus --Rick Warren has.

Too many I'm afraid. I really think we are on the verge of huge apostate movement in the U.S.

That's just one of the dumbest things I've heard a professing Christian say in a long time. He's basically saying that Jesus is a liar. Why would God define marriage and then turn around today and say "Oh I was just kidding. I meant man and man and woman and woman and any multiple combination?"

If he's got an opinion about it HIMSELF, then he should speak for himself. But don't be dragging the HOLY name of Jesus into this and saying He would approve of something He's already spoken to.

SHAMEFUL!!!

This line of thinking is just ridiculously stupid.

Hey Jimmy, explain this?

When the Pharisee's tested Jesus on the question of divorce, he replied (Matt. 19:4-6), "And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made[a] them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?[c] So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Those for gay marriage argue, passionately, that this verse spoke only about marriage and divorce, not about gay marriage/same marriage. sex marriage. Nevertheless, since same-sex relationships were prominent in the OT and NT times, if Jesus meant anything differently than this principle on marriage (between one man and one woman), I am sure, He was conscientious ans spiritual discerning enough to have addressed it at this time, and He didn't. :jesus:

:praying: Thus Carter, like many American church goers, are wrong and unable to address the very words of the Lord! And this is why the Jesus spoke on the road to hell being wide and the path to heaven is narrow (Matthew 7:13-14)! I am not sure which road Carter of even Joel Osteen are on, but it sure appears that they are shoving folks towards the highway to hell with statements like this! :type:

What! The defender of being gay and loving gays is saying that Carters' words were shameful! How is that loving and accepting of gays? Isn't your comment and word hurting to gays who think they are saved and can be a part of the church?

That was your stand for the first few thousand posts you made in the forum, so why the change? Did you finally see the light? :BangHead:
