Cats or Dogs?

Definitely dogs. I'm allergic to them, but I can't resist petting them even though I am. I just have to make sure I wash my hands before putting them near my face.

The only way I would have a cat is if I get really lonely and want companionship. Unfortunately, unlike faithful and loving dogs that will sacrifice themselves for their family, cats are selfish and only care about their own wants and needs. Cats aren't much of a companion and only care that you feed them, keep their litter pan clean (unless you let them roam the neighborhood) and pet them when they demand it.

I hate it when two cats get in a fight right outside my RV. I also hate hearing dogs bark and bark and bark and bark--especially late at night. If one dog barks, every dog within hearing barks. Still, dogs are far better than cats in my opinion. Dogs actually need humans, while cats are pretty self-sufficient and self-centered.

Around my 5 acres is jungle. Snakes are every where and many mice. I keep feeding feral cats just so the snake and mice population do not over run the place. One cat is indoors 24/7, one comes in during the day and is out at night. The other 3 are feral and will not let you pet them. At one time I was feeding as many as twelve. It is sad that people will just drop off an animal instead of taking care of them in a responsible way.

I like dogs especially golden retrievers. Had one for years and will have another soon.

The problem with cats is that there are too many of them and too few recipes. I am sure ALF would agree with me.

I heard that humans made good fodder for primitive dogs too and not as furry to chew on.

I like all animals, but not on chains or full confinement. Then I live on a large rural property and all our animals are properly trained and supervised.

We even had a goose in the front garden for 22 years. Over the years we have rescued 5 horses, 24 sheep, several goats and a few odd animals. The abuse of animals by humans is unbelievable.

Personally, I like both of them. We have two cats and a dog and enjoy them all except when we have to take them to vet $$$$. But, if I had to choose it would be a dog. A dog isn't called "Man's best friend" for nothing.

We only have one animal and that's our little yorkie. I like to call him King Snickers as he runs the house for us. Of course when you are an empty nester a little dog just is part of the family.:1_grouphug::love2:

People don't own cats like they do dogs; cats own people. They aren't there for your pleasure; you're there for their pleasure.

That's the truth. Sometimes, when I have to pay a vet bill, I wish mine would go own somebody else. Otherwise, I love to watch them keep the rodent population under control. They catch the rodent only to have my Aussie steal it from them.

I'm definitely a cat person. While cats don't keep intruders away, scratch the furniture, & sometimes act crazy in the house, they have a sense of cleanliness that dogs do not have. Plus I'd much rather had a cat rub against me or dig their claws in me to show affection than to have a dog lick my face.

I own three cats. A long-haired siamese named Gabriel, a short-hair black & white cat named Oreo (for obvious reasons), & a short-hair, tortoiseshell calico named Callie. Gabriel is a nice natured cat. He likes taking naps on my fat gut. Callie likes sitting in my kitchen window sill. She isn't spade. While I dread the thought of having more cats running around the house, i think it would be interesting to see what the kittens would look like. I have had both Callie & Gabriel since they were born. I found Oreo in my yard with a another litter of kittens. They were wild. One day I got a kennel, put some tuna in the back of the cage, tied a string to the door, & waited. The one I named Oreo followed the trail of tuna into the cage & then I pulled the string & trapped him inside. I had to keep him caged up inside for about two days & then he actually started liking me.

I don't have a problem with dogs. The problem I have is I don't have a big enough yard. Even if I did, I don't have a fence. I don't like the idea of keeping a dog tied up in the yard. A dog should be able to run around the yard. If I did have a dog, I would have to either have a Siberian husky or a German shepard. Those type of dogs seem protective & are taken seriously when they start barking at potential intruders.

When I was 13 I threw a cat in a lake, and it swam out. I threw it in again, and it swam out again. The third time I threw it in, it swam off in a different direction. :laugh: Cats might not be bright, but even they can learn with repetition. :laugh:

I love dogs, especially labs. Dogs, even the smart ones, are dumb enough to love us and forgive us our shortcomings as human beings. Cats, on the other hand, have attitudes and seek revenge if things don't go their way.

You're not kdding about that. I had this one cat a few years back, I called her Dutchess. She was a nice cat until I brought in another cat & then she turned mean. When I first brought the new cat over, I was sitting in my chair with him in my lap. Then Dutchess ran over to where I was at & propped herself up close to the new cat. When she started to growl, I pushed her away, then she ran back to where she was. I pushed her a second time, then she hissed at me, & returned. After I pushed her the third time, she ran around my chair, jumped onto the chair arm, clawed & bit my right hand. She never acted nice to me after that. After that she spent the last few days in a kennel before I took her to the pound.
