We've almost always had dogs -- various breeds throughout the years -- a "Benjie" dog, a golden retriever (wonderful), beagles (long story) and now a maltese (a great small dog).

You're not kdding about that. I had this one cat a few years back, I called her Dutchess. She was a nice cat until I brought in another cat & then she turned mean. When I first brought the new cat over, I was sitting in my chair with him in my lap. Then Dutchess ran over to where I was at & propped herself up close to the new cat. When she started to growl, I pushed her away, then she ran back to where she was. I pushed her a second time, then she hissed at me, & returned. After I pushed her the third time, she ran around my chair, jumped onto the chair arm, clawed & bit my right hand. She never acted nice to me after that. After that she spent the last few days in a kennel before I took her to the pound.

She was jealous. Had you gotten rid of the new cat, everything would have been OK. It was her territory, her home, and she wasn't going to share it with another cat.

It is virtually the same as bringing a new baby home for the first time.

I like dogs but mostly a cat person. They are so low maintenance lol. Except for the litter box thing and my cats usually go to the bathroom outside any way so that's not really a problem.
