Cell phones in Schools

Our policy is that you can have it. Sometimes students who drive to school need to call home if sports practice is canceled or rescheduled. God forbid, one should have a wreck on the way home and have no phone.

You can have your phone, but it must be out of sight and turned off. Usually in the book bag.

If a staff member sees it, it's taken for 5 days.

I don't mind cell phones in schools. It could be an opportunity to teach responsibility (not only for the device but also for the use of one's time).

Simple.
No phone use (off) during school.
Violation, the phone is taken away. And a parent must recover the phone. No exceptions.

According to this student, she thinks she can pepper spray her teacher over her phone.

She was apparently using her phone to cheat during a test, so the teacher took it away and got pepper sprayed.

Tennessee teen pepper sprays teacher after he takes her phone

My opinion is no phones in cell at all. I'm an adult and even I don't take my cell phone if I drive to town sometimes. If I can live without it as a business owner, and adult a teen can live without it.

The digital revolution has many aspects that have not and are not understood. We may be on or ahead of the curve in some areas, but alas we are clueless in other areas. We all know the story of the religious seeking to suppress science because science revealed mistaken views.

Human culture has a history of coping with whatever comes next, and as we go from memory based intellect to an access based intellect, many obsolete pundits will strive to hold on to the past.

Do we now know how personal computers, even chips implanted, will alter our culture in the near future? Nope so lets not run away from change.
