Cessationist or Continuationist?

I understand your position - perhaps, like many other, my faith is not as strong as it could be, and the fact that I was strengthened and encouraged means that I still have more growth ahead of me.

I would say that's true every believer though - the capacity for more growth. So I'm glad that at that one point, the Lord threw a straw my way!

Just different ways of looking at things, my brother.

But the most important thing in our lives is is the way we look at things. And the most important thing we look at is the existence and attributes of God.

Seeing him as not only the creator of all things, but the constant sustainer of all things is unspeakably important.

And if nothing works but by his power- then a miracle is no more spectacular than a thousand things we behold every day of our lives.

Think that MOST baptists would NOT say ALL gifts have ceased after the Apostolic Age, Just the signs and wonders/revelatory ones, as we still hold to giftings to teach/lead/encourage/help etc!

most would also allow for God to directly still do Miracles/healing etc IF He so choosed, but very rare, and NONE gifted to do that today!

I once knew some strongly cessationist folks who worked out on the rez. They went to take care of an elderly non English speaking couple until family could arrive. (The oldsters were quite ill.) These good missionaries spoke only English while at the hogan for a couple of days. When the young family members arrived, the old folks said something in Navajo. Turned out they were praising God for sending Navajo speaking missionaries.

The "special communication", whatever it was, ceased as soon as Navajo speaking family arrived and could translate.

Far cry from a prayer language or anything like that, but convinced me God does what God thinks best.

that is how the true gift of tongues functioned in Acts, either the person spoken too could understand a foreign language, or else the speaker could preach in one!

NO mention of a heavenly prayer language!
