As much as we all abhor what this church has done, I am afraid that it is not that far different from what many churches do, only other churches have learned how to be more subtle. Instead of voting someone out, they just freeze them out by ignoring those of different race or social standing and make them feel uncomfortable, so that they move on of their own accord.

Most church folks are at least sophisticated enough these days to avoid doing anything so blatant that it would get them into the press.

And so my cynical side says that another pastor will be called and will probably do what he is told to do in order to get the paycheck (though it couldn't be very large from such a small group)! In fact, one wonders why it is so small ... is it perhaps because it is so exclusionary that very few are even attracted to it to visit? That they held a revival does not mean they are evangelistic; a lot of revivals I have seen are little more than exercises in nostalgia.

I did read that this 'clown party', 'er I mean church, is located in northern Mississippi, as well.

Extremely good perception, Joe. I have seen in earlier years some of the same thing, then far more blatant than now, and once in fact, when my 'church training teacher' basically started on some of this garbage, and that after 'bragging' about how his best friend at work was also into deeper Bible studies, etc., no less, I "basically took his head off" (with most of the rest of the class agreeing with me fully and verbally, as I saw no place for racial bigotry in the body of Christ. (The teacher gave up the class after that little fire storm.) The latent and de facto 'divisions' that exist may not be all that easy to put aside or overcome. in short order, given some historic aspects; the overt has no place, IMO. Joe, you and I did not have this bias almost 40 years ago at the Univ. of KY, where you were the BSU pastor, and I was a fairly regular member, who would have been much more involved, save for the geography, and that with me coming from a very rural background where deep division did exist in most places, and only two years past the passage of the Civil Rights Act. Everyone has had over 40 years to "get over it". It's time it was done. Permanently!

Not really. There will be many former racists in heaven, who died with their prejudices, as much as there will be non-racists.
Jesus Christ did not save them on account of their prejudices, or absence of it.
He saved them because it was the Father's will for them.
Racism is alive and well here in the States, did you all know that ?
There are just those who are more "open" about it, but most are subtle about their racism.
I am finding that out here in Western New York. The subtility, I mean.

 

By the grace of God, these former things will be no more, and the prejudices will 'die' with the physicak deaths or the rapture of these saints.

The way I see it the Church is now vacant. We should all go join and vote a Brother in as Pastor. Looks like they need someone willing to take the first step... :wavey: :laugh: :wavey:

On a serious note, I wished I could talk to young Joe. I tell him to hake the dust of that place off himself and move on. The Lord loves him and wants to use him in his service.

 

The Deacons of this church will be held to a higher standard on Judgment day by God if I am not mistaken. Ephesians 4:30 will be applied to the Deacons. What they're doing grieves The Holy Spirit. James 3:1 and James 2:1-4 will be applied to them I think.

I thought one had to believe in Jesus Christ and repent of his or her sins. What if a racist dies unrepentent, such as Adolf Hitler?

I wonder if the fact that there are still so many people in the southern states who obsess over the South losing the Civil War and proudly display the Confederate flag has anything to do with incidents like this?

I know this grieved The Holy Spirit. The is no doubt in my mind. They also taught their kids and other bystanders that teaching hate is okay.:tear: I know that the Bible states that deacons and Bishops are held to a higher standard by God. Isn't this in Titus? Thou shall not grieve the Holy Spirit Of God by whom you are sealed unto the day of redemtion is in Ephesians 4:30.

When I was in college in the early 70's, a local SBC church that was building a large contingent of college students declined to initially admit a freshman student of Native American heritage because the church did not have a policy one way or another about admitting non-whites. This happened on the first Sunday of the school year when all of the students had come forward to move their letters. The next Sunday only two of the students returned. The rest moved to other churches. I never heard what the church decided to do about admitting non-whites. They had missed their chance.
