A few months ago the question has come up about Christ bearing our sins, God laying our iniquity on Him.
I asked why some read God laying our wrath on Jesus, Jesus bearing our sins, as God taking our sins away from us and putting them on Jesus.
Part of my question regarded the nature of sins (treating sins as things). Another part concerned the fact that just taking away our sins would not make us less guilty.
It was explained to me that the language of Scripture - God laying another's something on somebody else - somebody bearing something that is ours - means that that simething had to be removed from the original possessor.
This does not seem logical. But it beings up questions.
God laid our sins on Christ.
God laid Christ's righteousness on us.
Christ bore our sins.
We now bear Christ's righteousness.
I am told the language means that God took our sis from us and put thrm on Christ.
Would this not also mean that God took Jesus' righteousness away from Him?
If Jesus bearing our sins means our sins were removed from us
Then would not us now bearing His righteousness mean it was removed from Him?
