When Christ died for the sins of the elect, He died for their sin of unbelief, so He must show mercy to the elect for their unbelief Rom 11:32

32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

So now the elect for their unbelief, obtain mercy Rom 11:30-31

30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.68

The only way one for whom Christ died, to die in unbelief, its because unbelief reigned superior over the Blood of Christ. Now who wants to make that claim ?

Christ died for the sin of unbelief because its a sin the Holy Spirit convicts of Jn 16:8-9

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Unbelief is the root sin of the world that Christ taketh away ! Jn 1:29

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Christ died for sin period.

I don't understand that statement. It is an impossibility. John Owen, the greatest defender of limited atonement, said that while you live in sin and unbelief Christ cannot save you. You cannot take one theological principle and have it nullify another. Christ died for elect people. Elect people have to come to Christ by faith and believe. There are no elect people who won't do this. And if you are a traditional Baptist and you don't buy into this you can rest assured that there are no people who will believe in Christ only to find out that they aren't elect or that Christ didn't die for them.

Then you dont understand the power/efficacy of Christs death.
