I challenge you pastors out there. Make an announcement this Sunday Lord's Day. Tell your congregation that the following 3 or 4 weeks you will not be having music played. Instead of music, encourage members to come to the altar and do some serious intercessory prayer. Then Teaching and preaching as usual. Find out who truly are the faithful.

    It may open your eyes.

    SFIC,

What if God is not leading a pastor to do this? I think we need to be careful about assuming what God's will is for other churches and pastors and making challenges like this. We need to be careful that we don't run into a sort of legalism that quenches the spirit of God and what he may wish to do in a certain Church. I think a good way to guard against that kind of legalism is to study the Scriptures, and if there is not a clear explicit teaching there, then we are probably better off not being dogmatic about it.

I didn't know you were a music teacher.
    That's great.

And I agree... about God giving us all we need.

    27 teens ranging from 13 - 17

I would have to say that is not Christian Liberty at all. First you say if you go to a traditional service, worship will be the furthest thing from your mind, then that we would say your music is worldly.

The fact that you come to a traditional service and do not feel a spirit of worship unless you can hear the rock and roll style music shows you do not go to church for worship at all, but rather for music. The music that appeals to your flesh.
</font>[/QUOTE]Most of you folks would not know the difference between preference and conviction if they both slapped you in the face. Ya'll are the type of people that would split a church over the color of the carpet! God allows different convictions and preferences to reach different people in different ways. I don't have a problem with either style of worship, I personally prefer a blended style that gets the best of both worlds. The man was simply trying to say that people prefer different styles and that it is all in the ear of the hearer.

    All About Grace:

Don't let these keyhole lookers that use both eyes and the nose against the door to look at the world get you upset. I understand that they are simply trying to throw rocks at your God given preferences. Are they the same as mine? No, but I realize that musice to most of these folks is just the intro music for the pastor and other than that has no place in their lives. Keep up the good work.

Have ya'll recorded anything? If so let me know I would like to give it a listen.

I agree with your statement,Its all about the blood, Not "Broadway" as "helen" said, we are in this world but not of it. We cant go to church on Sun. and then to the Bar. There are great musicians, writting great songs about the Gospel, yet some are just out for filthy lucre.Thanx and GOD Bless

[/QUO Thers truth in what you all are trying to say but not all of it is true. Jesus said that the true worshipers worship God in Spirit and in truth. So adding your own "Style" is not Biblical. Worship is an individual thing , the only reason we should go to church is to hear the Word of God beeing preached. Thanx and God Bless.

The first time I heard "Christian Rock" was when I attended a nondenominational church with a friend.

That's where it all started. Then it spilled over into the other denominations.

I can't say I didn't enjoy the hand waving and the swaying to the upbeat music, because I did, but I soon realized it was my flesh that enjoyed it - not my spirit.

I have some praise CD's that I listen to all the time and I love them, but they are not "rock".

As I said before, I do not have a conviction about the music I listen to, but I DO have my preferences and YES, I know the difference...

HMV and other secular music stores are recognizing that there is a market for Christian music from Christian consumers. It is a wise business decision from their perspective to compete with Christian bookstores in this market.

For the artists, it is a tribute to their quality of work if Christians and non-Christians listen to it. For the longest time, my complaint about popular Christian music was that while they often had great lyrics, few were composed very well from a musical perspective. And if some non-Christians are exposed to the bible and the gospel through Christian music, all glory belongs to God!

Amazon and other secular bookstores sell bibles and excellent Christian books as well when there is a market for them.

We've done a few services that were more focused on reflection, silence or solemnity with little to no music. Some of them also had very little preaching but plenty of scripture. I found them to be among some of the most powerful services we've had.

Members of our congregation don't come for the music or the pastors. They come for God.
