Christians and ghosts

There used to be a lady who came to our church regularly and said she believed in the gospel and so wanted to be baptised.
Trouble is she used to visit mediums and has what she called "spirit guides". Our pastor became very concerned about this. All kinds of reasoning and persuasion would not budge her from her belief. The Lord Jesus Christ to her was not the Son of God, but a powerful medium, no more.

In the end we met together as a church and prayed together that she would be delivered from this Satanic power. It always amazes me that it never occurs to these spiritists (there is nothing spiritual about them at all) that the spirits they contact are not evil spirits willing to deceive them.

Anyway, as I said mighty prayer went up for her. The next time our pastor met her in the street he said to her, "What has your spirit guidehad to say to you today?" She replied, "We cannot contact him for some reason. But another guide has contacted us." From that date she ceased from coming to our church.

One day as we were going from door to door my friend said to me, "Oh that's so and so's house, I'm not going to knock there". But I sad that we should, so I did and she opened the door and I struck up a conversation with her. I will always remember the sad words that fell from her mouth. After a few minutes she said, "You Christians will be so disappointed when you get to heaven and find that Jesus is not the Son of God after all". Very sad.

Satan is the father of lies, and the best way to get someone to believe a lie is to tell mostly the truth with a little bit of lie thrown in, or tell them something they want to hear. So, no matter how evil demonic power is, those who are not discerning will be decieved by their pleasing words.

Now, sometimes, they will simply appear evil. Maybe they want to frighten you or maybe they want to be appealing to someone who really wants that kind of power, or whatever, but in general, what better way to deceive someone than to appear as that poor little boy who was murdered or that matronly woman who was murdered, or whatever?

Let's not forget that man's pride plays a role in such things as well. People visit psychics because they don't want to "wait upon the Lord" or because the answer they are getting is not what they want so head down to the psychic for a "better" one.

I've seen this played out in real life with someone close to me visiting a psychic because they were unhappy but thought the scriptures weren't addressing the problem. They didn't consider it prideful btw. They just wanted some answers.

Distantly related (or even unrelated) thought. I saw the SImpsons movie last night (very funny). There was a moment where they were in church, and something bizarre happens. Homer Simpson (clearly not a Christian) panics and thumbs through the Bible and says, "There are no answers in here!"

I know the very word "Simpsons" is likely to cause some knees to jerk, but I'm not going to respond to those reactions, so save your legalistic outbursts for someone else. ;)

This is a moot point, anyway. Women have the right to vote. 'Nough said. And none of the men here have any authority over me. I only follow Jesus, my pastor, and my DH.
