Christie fires top aide over "bridge closing scandal"

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie publicly apologized Thursday for controversial lane closures last year that were arranged by his associates as an apparent act of political revenge, and fired a top aide who was at the center of the scandal.

"I come out here to apologize to the people of New Jersey," he said. "I am embarrassed and humiliated."

Christie maintained that, until this week, he did not know his staff was involved in the incident last September, when lanes at the George Washington Bridge from Fort Lee, N.J., were closed for four day. For months, Christie faced accusations the lanes were blocked in retaliation over Mayor Mark Sokolich's refusal to endorse him for re-election last November.

Christie repeatedly denied the charges, until emails surfaced showing the governor's deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly, was involved.
Wow! "Bridge closing scandal!" Oh, my, stop the teleprompter, don't roll the presses just yet, quick, make room for a ...

... "bridge closing scandal"?? Really?

We've got a traitor in the White House who disavowed his own war strategy, is acting unconstitutionally in rewriting laws duly passed by Congress, has hijacked healthcare and ruined it beyond repair, has completely usurped the power of U.S. security agencies and turned them against the American people ...

... and all the Democrats can come up with against a Republican is that he allegedly closed some lanes to a bridge?

Really???

Where's a good secessionist petition when you want one?

I'm glad he's being held accountable. Republicans should hold their candidates to a higher level than democrats do, if they expect to win anything.

If it were Obama's aid he would never have fired him.

I watched part of Christies news conference. Unless future revelations show he is lying I believe he has helped himself. The contrast between his response to scandal and that of Obama and Hillary is striking!

Shutting down a major traffic artery is not the kind of thing I'd expect a statesman to do in response to a political snub. Christy certainly didn't do anything to further hios political future in doing this childish thing.

Would be nice if you applied this same logic to all the crap the Ds have generated.

Too much to expect I guess.:BangHead:

Would be nice if you could analyze every situation on its own merits. So you support this kind of political attack which only makes life more difficult more ordinary citizens?

Yes, lots of folks are unaware that Nixon was not involved in Watergate, but what brought Nixon down was trying to cover it up once he found out about it.

I don't know how much damage this will cause Christie, but it can only help him that he fired the person responsible (if all is true).

Christy didn't do this - it was people under him that did this. He had no knowledge of it and when he asked his people about it, they denied it. Those that denied it to his face and were later shown to be clearly responsible, he fired.

IMO ... much ado about nothing compared to "Fast and Furious", "Benghazi", "IRS persecution of Tea Party", etc, etc...

As well as a possible left press smokescreen deflection of Gates accusations against Biden.

Kind of a reverse Quid Pro Quo.

But that's politics, down and dirty.

A woman died waiting in an ambulance because of this. I thought you valued human life.

Well, it wasn't Obama and a 91 year-old woman died because of a delay getting to the hospital. Impeach Christy.

Its far far far deeper than just a spiteful lane closing on the GW Bridge in order to extract payback. Have you heard about the 16 acre land development in Ft. Lee and what would be required to build it... maybe you want to look that up. Old adage, follow da money.

Nope. The woman's daughter said that her mom would have died in the ambulance even if there were no traffic jam.

Exactly. Even had mom gone straight to the hospital in 2 seconds from the call, she was gone - nothing anyone could do.

That isnt the point Ann. Lives could have been lost is the point & it's irresponsible to have planned & executed such a ridiculous plan to close that bridge.

Oh no question about it - but I really do believe Christie didn't know anything about it. Guliani was on the news today and he said that he believes him as well because if he did know, it will absolutely come out and if he said he didn't know and it comes out that he did, he's toast. No way is THAT smart!
