Took my bestus to see this film last night .. .in the theater. No masks, No Fear.

Wasn't what I expected ... but ... then again, other than the name "The Chosen" I wasn't sure how it was gonna playout.

Wish Jenkins would have booked "Stryper" for one of his musical talents. A lil yellow/black attack woulda been just FINE. They even have a song for Christmas "Reason for the Season"

So ... the depiction of how Luke received the account of Christ's birth from Mary's POV ... via message through Mary Magdalene .... narrative license to some degree, but how much? IDK ... that one surprised me.

Did Mary die in 48AD?

the scene kinda border-lined the Catholics' worship of Mary. Jenkins is the son of the co-author to "Left Behind" ... but are they/were they Catholics?

I haven't seen it. However, a new believer, whom I have Bible study with, who comes out of Hispanic Catholicism, was taken aback by the veneration of Mary and the possible implied sexual desires of Mary Magdelene toward Jesus. He had red flags. He also said it was mostly just Christian contemporary music, which turned him off as he saw little actual storyline. Again, I haven't seen it so I cannot comment directly to the production.

yeah ... you can't approach it with the idea of watching the storyline ...

I think the intent is more of a worship service with a 2-3 Act play of Jesus' birth in between.

I'll agree, some of the pre-story music was more production than worship ... but I'm kinda old school. I recognize they're trying to appeal to more than the southern Baptist ... so I went with it.

I don't recall MM's physical attractions toward Jesus ... perhaps I missed it.

I'll admit it's a wonder of mine, though, to have that setup and be void of such temptation. I'm no Scorsese fan, but this is one of the things I've pondered on occasion ... was Jesus tempted by THAT? I know He was hungry and thirsty ... I know He was tempted with power and immediate glory ...

Anyhow. The Chosen is a good series overall, I think. I like the production part of paying it forward, kinda underscores "someone else paid for you" and here He is.

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

And he is able to deal gently with ignorant and wayward people because he himself is subject to the same weaknesses.

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.

just clearly not as explicit in the array of temptations ... as you say ... "indicated."

before The Chosen, I'd never really considered what might have been during that period of travel/preaching/healing/miracles. 3.5 years ... long time to remain on a "sugar high" ... there were struggles and the series portrays some of them pretty well, I think.
