That is, I believe, a normal thing to feel because beliefs are very personal "things".

And the NCT does not focus on the NCT only. It interprets Scripture through the New Covenant.

It is Baptist theology. NCT is not new (although it is being defined more than in the past). There is just renewed interest and it is being re-articulated.

Where it stands out is in its approach to Scripture. It is a rejection of Covenant Theology and Dispensationalism, but retains covenants and dispensations as presented in the text of Scripture (interpreted in light of the New Covenant).

Because the Old Covenant law, including the Decalogue, has been fulfilled in Jesus Christ, New Covenant Theology denies that the Old Covenant law, including the Decalogue and its so-called “moral law”, is binding on New Covenant believers today. Yet, as the special revelation of God as fulfilled in Christ, the Old Covenant law, including the Decalogue, continues to inform behavior in the New Covenant.

Reading up on a topic Salty introduced I thought of another example that will help understand the difference between what you are suggesting and actual NCT belief.

In the Ten Commandments we are commanded not to "kill". The word used is narrower than kill, but broader than murder. The punishment is death.

Suppose you are driving the speed limit on a wet road and hydroplane, killing a pedestrian.

Under the Old Covenant Law you have violated "thou shalt not kill". There is no offering to cover this sin. There is no mercy. You will justly die. Except since it was an accident IF you make it to a "city of refuge" alive then you can escape the penalty. If you ever leave that city you will be put to death.

NCT looks at that as pointing to Christ. He is the "city of refuge". But where the Old Covenant Law just looks at the action (or the result of the action) the Law of Christ looks at the heart. You can be forgiven under the Law of Christ. You cannot under the Old Covenant Law.

The Law of Christ commands us to love. This keeps us from violating God's moral law. In fact, this is God's moral law and the Old Covenant Law is but a dim reflection (dealing primarily with actions).
