Is it just me or does anyone else find something wrong with this? In the city, I've passed at least 3 churches promoting some type of Easter egg event. Is it just harmless fun or is it cause for alarm?

No, I see nothing wrongwith the easter egg hunt. It's fun. The kids enjoy it and they hear the Gospel.

My church usually works with some other churches to host an Easter egg event. They share the gospel there. I volunteer at these events. They didn't get to do it last year due to weather.

I see nothing wrong with it....although it does seem that the local church is more "p.c." than in the past - and much more sensitive....so it is an issue with many today. It would have been odd when I was growing up for churches not to have an "Easter egg hunt." Now most churches don't celebrate "Easter." It's "Resurrection Sunday," which is in practice and meaning (the meaning ascribed by Christians who observe "Easter") identical.

Well that's good if they hear the gospel but is that the norm at an easter egg hunt?

I have no idea. Just like I have no idea whether churches will proclaim the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ this Sunday. I just know that we will do both.

...but bunnies and colored Eggs have so much to do with the resurrection of Christ.

Ugggh!

I've helped with parking during the event at one church,
...and this year I notice that our church will have an Easter Egg hunt as well.

I might be too busy to attend...

Double Ugggh!

Do I earn a rabbit for this?

We do an egg hunt for the kids after church. Fun to see the little ones so excited as they fill their basket.

I'm with you, go2church. They do "go2church" and then get excited over the hunt which entertains the kids and then their excitement brings a smile to us adult.

Ahhh come on Rob....the Methodist near me had a guy dressed as Jesus riding on a donkey last week and for Easter releases balloons (symbolic of the Resurrection)....I am not sure what he is going to do to top it but.......

Well now lets see what scripture had to say on this matter!

1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.... I'm only saying... Brother Glen

I find the whole treatment of Resurrection Sunday to be pretty disgusting myself. Christmas gets an entire season, but the single most important event in the history of creation gets a day, which is celebrated with egg laying rabbits and people buying clothes that they can wear to church to showoff and try to outdo each other. The birth of our savior is a day worth celebrating, but if He had only been born we would all still be going hell!

There is an Easter season. Starts with Ash Wednesday, through Lent, to Holy Week (Silent Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday) concluding with Easter Sunday.

Yeah there is the Easter season. I'm with ShagNappy though on the fact that it doesn't seem to get the treatment that Christmas gets. I think the difference is while the world celebrates Christmas (for whatever reasons it may be...wrong or right) on the church celebrates Easter.

We provide about 35 Easter Egg hunts in communities around our church and where our members live. They are wonderfully successful and at each one the Gospel is presented. We provide other ministries too, praying for folks, helps ministries, etc.

These have been amazing outreach opportunities for us. We really enjoy them as part of our ministry.

I have been in churches that do it. I have actually led doing it before. We included Bible story time with it as well as other activities along side it.

Other churches do. Other churches don't. I don't really do it any more. Sometimes I hide eggs accidentally for my self. Then I have a religious experience when I find the eggs.

I think it depends on how its done.

We used to take hollow eggs and put a piece of candy and a little slip of paper in them. Each piece of paper had a clue to the Gospel in it and when the children found them all, we would put the clues together and show the children the Gospel.

Unfortunately, we weren't at home this year and didn't do it.
