When I pastored in KY, the divorce rate in churches rose exponentially. Just what I saw at that time

Instead, I would start a family night dinner at church one night per week. Even pic nic style to promote family unity and church family time. It is a much better use of time and of families. You could even use the time for men to help lead/teach

Great Books to start
Spiritual Disciplines of the Church by Don Whitney
Holiness by James Ryle

Maybe have a Gospel sing along

Or

Maybe a time to invite outsiders to your church for fellowship

Just be with your kids

Back in the day
Lords Day. Church
Monday softball practice
Tues. game
Wed. Prayer Meetin
Thrs Game night
Friday. Open
Sat AM. Practice sometimes a game

Thankfully, the Association did away with it

JMO

BTW, the church actually split over softball the year before I started there due to who was getting playing time and who wasnt

Wow, what a terrible thing! I’ve never encountered that issue. Thank you for sharing.

I use my team as a ministry opportunity to reach people with the gospel. We play in open leagues and church leagues in Chattanooga. Softball can be a very dark community so we try to be a light in it for the Lord. In fact, we’re more of a ministry team than a “church team”. But I agree, when the focus leaves the Lord, we can become carnal.

Sometimes it can work the other way. I'd dated a young lady for nearly a year before we broke up. Over the next 6-8 months we each, separately, came to salvation. The next summer we providentially were assigned to the same team. By summer's end we were engaged and our marriage remains strong. Those events were in 1970.

My parents met at the ballfield too!
