Church-Sponsored Concealed Carry Classes

Rather than send another similar thread off on a rabbit-trail, I will ask my question in a new thread.

Do you think that a church-sponsored concealed carry class, is unbiblical? If so, please provide Scripture.

Are you expecting different arguments that what they have used to argue against defending yourself?

While it's a different question--I expect Rev is correct and you'll see the same answers; e.g., if you trust Jesus, then why does your church support concealed carry, much less offer CC classes?

If my Church ever offers them I will be first in line to signup. Unless someone comes up with a real argument against it, I see nothing wrong with it.

Just because I have the permit, doesn't mean I would use it very often, or at all.

The question should perhaps be what part of worship should include concealed carry class?

Ultimately, worship is why the assembly assembles.

Not opposed to the classes, just not certain that gifts and offerings should be used in that way.

If the church desires to "rent" their facilities for such use, I wouldn't be opposed.

I would imagine a training instructor would need to be hired, and maybe some other materials would need to be purchased. Charge a fee for the class and building rental, and nothing says it would have to be done at the Church property.

The rules might be different in each State as to how the classes must be run, so that might make a difference too.

When I did it no one had to be hired. A local instructor came in at my request and gave the class to members at a discount since we supplied the facilities. This was strictly for members of my church.

I don't believe the church should be used for such purposes for very OBVIOUS reasons. If the church wants to point the congregation to an institution that offers such classes, have at it. But it does not need to be a church sponsored event.

I think this would be akin to a church sponsored safe-sex class.

I'd be willing to bet that my church has the only militia.
We also let the police use our property to train bomb sniffing canines.
Oh, and we have two working canons.

Volunteers have to be 18 or older to learn how to fire the rifles.
Firing the canons and making the charges is quite specialized.

All this is associated with the Revolutionary War - our church property even was noted to have a small skirmish between locals and the Brits.

Rolf..., it is certainly NOT unbiblical.

Is John of Japan(?) into martial arts for self-defense not to mention the exercise to be considered unbiblical? Certainly not. Back in the early 70's I was able to achieve a decent standing in martial arts and had occasion only once to rely upon the skill.

Teaching and encouraging Christians to defend themselves is an honorable thing to do. This attitude of being wimpy and vulnerable for any kind of abuse is for the birds. I sincerely doubt our Lord desired for us to cowards when facing danger.

You seem to have sincerely confused the character of the Jesus of the Bible with some Jesus you have made up. Some of you just sound blood-thirsty and have taken on the persona that Fox News and its hosts have been pushing to the tune of not being wimpy. And anybody with an ear to hear will plainly recognize where this line of thinking comes from.

And it has NOTHING to do with the Jesus Christ of the Bible and everything to do with a political party and the god of 1211 Avenue of the Americas Devilish in NYC.

Zaac..., as I suggested in the other thread..., take a couple of aspirins and take short nap. You'll feel better when you get up.

...besides, it does appear that most all of your comments are but fishing trips.

Many of the commenters seem to want those charged with protecting the flock to defend from scripture the use of deadly force. When I pray, Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me, I am under the impression the "rod" was a weapon to deal with predictors. As a leader of an assembly, what are our responsibilities to take reasonable man steps to protect the flock.
