Sadly, we're lagging behind the Russians in the Blessing War:

Just a couple comments.
A church in Pennsylvania has thrown itself into the nationwide debate on gun laws by announcing they will be hosting a blessing ceremony for couples with an AR-15 assault rifle.
#1. AR-15s are not "assault rifles" so nothing will be blessed.
That's my opinion. You are entitled to yours.
How magnanimous of you! :)
Literally worshipping guns now.
Actually the article didn't mention worship of the firearms. Only that heads of households be reminded of their responsibility to defend their loved ones.
Reminding family heads of duty to protect their family.
Correct.
its not the business of the Church to be blessing ARs.
Who gave you the responsibility to dictate to other local congregations what they can do and what they can't do? What happened to the autonomy of the local church, one of the Baptist Distinctives? Are you sure you are a Baptist or are you actually a Presbyterian?

It's Christ's Church, not mine or yours. He is the Architect and we are merely builders, following His plan. I stand on pretty firm ground when I confidently say, blessing AR-15s is not the mission Christ gave His Church to accomplish.

Local congregations do not have the right to go outside the bounds of what Christ prescribed. Their autonomy begins and ends there.

Okay. Does that include Sunday School, Holidays, pulpits, choirs, pianos, pews, buildings, bank accounts, song books, etc.? And who decides? Is the local church autonomous or not?

Jesus gets to decide.

The mission of the Church is to make disciples.

Sunday school, singing fro song books and buildings, bank accounts, etc. are useful in doing so.

Matthew 28:18–20

[18] And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (ESV)

The mission of the church is to build up the saints.

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. (Thessalonians 5:11)

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens,4 but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, iChrist Jesus himself being the cornerstone, kin whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into la holy temple in the Lord. you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by5 the Spirit. (Eph 2:19-22)

The mission of the church is to be an alternate city to the city of man.

It is to function as an example of what our future lives will be like, as a picture of things to come

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matt 5:14)

Quibble away.

Thank you for proving my point. The blessing does all of the above.
