Clinton Warns Dems on Gun Control

In 1994, the GOP won an historic landslide and swept the Democrats in Congress from power. The victory was due, in large part, to a recent assault weapons ban that had been enacted. No doubt with this in mind, former President Bill Clinton last night warned top Democrat donors not to be dismissive of those who believe in gun rights.

“Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them,” Clinton said.

“A lot of these people live in a world very different from the world lived in by the people proposing these things,” Clinton said. “I know because I come from this world."

The Assault Weapons Ban is a stupid idea, Obama would be better pushing for universal background checks and perhaps ban on high-capacity ammo.

You do mean a ban on ammo of the "Armor piercing" type and NOT what most readers would THINK you mean---as in a ban on high capacity clip rounds, don't you???

And that captures the problem exactly. Many who are proposing gun control have no idea what they're talking about.

No. I'm sure he meant magazines. He just doesn't know anything about guns, same as the people who write such legislation.

Yes that's what I meant but that's also why I said "perhaps" to indicate uncertainty. I need to look at the evidence regarding the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of such a ban.

Let me explain it this way.

If a practiced shooter has 3 magazines of 10 rounds each, it will take him or her approximately 3-4 seconds longer to put out 30 rounds than with a single 30 round magazine.

Also ask yourself how a pistol grip, flash suppressor, bayonet stud or a black finish make a rifle more lethal. The simple answer is they don't. The proposed assault weapons ban will do nothing to stop a determined killer.

It's all window dressing and politics. What it's really about is getting a ban, any kind of ban, on any kind of gun. It's only a first step.

The real goal is elimination of all firearms, which would have to involve eventual confiscation, and total elimination of our 2ND amendment rights.

"Waiting periods are only a step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of private firearms is the goal."
---Janet Reno

"To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."
