Cloning

I haven't seen it addressed elsewhere, (OK, I'm new) so how about it? Is Cloning ethical, a sin, against nature or God's will? There has been much good touted as a result of this type of research. Possible cures for horrible diseases and health problems, possibly even a source of donor organs. On the other hand, many grave issues have been raised. At this point I'm not saying what I believe about. I'm just "jogging" discussion.

I don't think it is either ethical or wise to attempt human cloning. Just because we CAN do something, does not mean we should. I believe those same sentiments were voiced by the scientists who ran the "Mahatten Project"...and look where that lead.

When we resort to cannibalizing the unborn of our species to prolong life, then we have lost all respect for life.

Word digger...do you mean to imply that God's Word applies to practical issues that face us??? And, further, that God expects us, as His ambassadors, to shine the light of scripture into a dark world??? You gotta be kidding, we're Baptists, man! Get 'em saved and put 'em to sleep in the pews until the rapture! Keep your hands clean, buddy! Better to fight amongst ourselves over eschatology, modes of baptism, and when to schedule the ice cream social.

Seriously, though (as if the cancerous, sinful apathy of the church in 2001 isn't serious as a heart attack) since the question was asked, I agree with you. Man was created in God's image and cloning is an advanced attempt to usurp god's authority.

Now let's all just sit back (in a very holy way in church) and let it happen. After all, we won't be around to have to explain to our great-great grandchildren why we left them with a living hell on earth.

Cloning is merely a high-tech form of creating "hybrids."

It is ethical and Biblical to selectively breed plants and animals for our use. It was never ethical or Biblical to selectively breed humans.

Therefore, human cloning is immoral.

That's my take, anyway.

I can't remember the news source, but a few months back I read a story about some religious group that wanted to extract DNA from the Shroud of Turan and clone Jesus.

Assuming it was Jesus (which I don't believe for a New York minute) I would hate to think what such an attempt might produce.

Clone Jesus.com? I'm sorry but that is just wrong. Not gonna happen. nope. sorry. I believe cloning itself is wrong. Now stem cell research- there is a debate. On another message board it caused a couple of people never to return...

Dolly the Scotish sheep (named after Dolly Parton because breast tissue was used for the cloning) that was cloned has the same DNA as the donor.

But Dolly is NOT the same. Identical Twins in real life have the same DNA but vary greatly.

So it is with "cloning". They are NOT duplicates, with all the good/bad traits.

There was a book out a few years ago called "Blood of Heaven" about a death row inmate who volunteered for medical experiments.

Turns out that the experiment was to inject him with a little DNA s****ed off of the Shroud of Turin.

Haven't read the book so I don't know what happens after that.

Seriously, I really don't think we should be messing with this. It surprises me that as a whole this country is against it, yet the research continues on....

Cloning trashes the sacredness of human life. Read Psalm 139 and the account of David about the creation of life and compare that to modern cloning.
The scientists who clone are capable of doing a lot of other things to human life that I better not mention here. Those scientists who just bragged they cloned a human embryo do not care about our Baptist beliefs, Christian values and life-affirming Biblical ethics. They want to make their mark in a new technology reagrdless of future consequences.

From my take of it(and I do have a right to say this, you'll find out), Human clonning or even Stem cell research is wrong. This is just another case of man trying to be God. They might be able to clone the body of a human but they will never be able to do one important thing. The Bible says when God made man He breathed in the nostrals and man became a living soul. That my friends I sincerely believe they will never be able to accoplish that. So Human cloning is very unethical and immoral and just plain wrong. They try to justify by making a reason sounding good to man's ear and that is "we can stop diseases or cure them" or something or another. This is the part that I have a right to say, I usualy don't tell people close to me(other than family) what I am about to tell know. I have Cystic Fibrosis, which is the number one killing respitory illness around(thought it was asthma, eh!

and for 19 years I have fought this, it comes along with heart diseases a vulenerable immune system, yet I have never complained about it. When I was 5yrs. I was told I had 6mos to live and even that a heart transplant would'nt save me, I have never let that bother me, why should I? I still believe life is to short for everyone, not just me, to complain. You see God made me this way, who am I to try and correct him? God doesn't make any mistakes. If He wanted me "normal" then he would have, I just accept what he did. So if I was asked to be part of some sort of research to get rid of CF my answer would be definetly not. I'll tell them I have a new body already waiting for me on some golden daybreak. People ask me how can I live knowing that I am "dying" of CF, I tell them I was saved at 9 and been saved ever since, I tell them I am not "dying" because I have CF but rather I am living Because I have CF. Here is another shocker for you I was captain of my H.S. track team 3yrs in a row I was the leading sprinter on the team none of them knew of my condition, I run distant races now around where I live(I am out of H.S. graduated in June 2001) they don't know. Don't get me wrong I am not looking for sympathy and I am not bragging on myself all I am doing is trying to make a point and that is I am happy the way I am no doctor, scientist could ever tell me other wise. As far as I am concerend I am healthy and have the trophies and rewards to prove it. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Proverbs 18:14, "The spirit of a man will sustain him in his infirmities, but a wounded spririt who can bear?" So, yes Human cloning is wrong and to me it is a sin. It is a dangerous thing when man trys to become God.

I appreciate what you said. Your acknowledgement that God made you the way you are is a great testimony to any who see themselves as "victims" of their circumstances or condition. We had a good friend who had Muscular Dystrophy for many years, before finally going home to be with the Lord last spring. His outlook was very similar to yours. He never complained about anything and was always grateful for what he had. I always left him with my spirits uplifted. I'm know his view on cloning would have been the same as yours. Thank you for sharing that with us.

Thanks, and I guess I should say your welcome also, but it is just my way of trying to help. There was a period(a short one) in my life when I wondered why. it didn't take long for me to figure it out. The reasons, two of them: 1)God said so, 2) God has blessed me to be as healthy as I am, under the circumstances, I guess to help others. Not just those with health problems but with everyday problems, to give them that push and say, "Don't give up!"
