Gen. 8:22 “While the earth remains,
Seedtime and harvest,
Cold and heat,
Winter and summer,
And day and night
Shall not cease.”
Gen. 9: 16 The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
While the earth remains!!
I am concerned that in UK there is no call for national repentance and prayer from the church leaders. We abort babies, teach children lies about sex, hate refugees and those who help them, etc. Our Parliament allows the Prime Minister to tell lies, and ejects those who call him "liar." We voted for a racist government which is disastrously mismanaging the economy.....
We have as a nation rejected God. God is warning us by plague and fire and flood - climate change.
We are using the rainbow to teach evil instead of God's care for creation. God have mercy.
The great concern of the ungodly is that man's physical activity - industrialisation and burning fossil fuels - is causing global warming. They want to continue in sin. Our concern should be that our sinful rejection of God's Law and Providence is causing him to express his disapproval in ways we can all feel.
I have added a verse to my Habakkuk hymn -
Fires, floods, plagues and drought,
Sinful man's brought about;
Scorns our needs by his greed;
Now the earth is dying,
Can't go on supplying,
We must all repent,
We must all repent,
All repent of our sin,
Trust in Christ our Saviour.
The prophet Habbakuk prayed to the LORD about the rise of sin & injustice in the land. The LORD replied that the Babylonians would invade. The people would be in exile for 70 years. Habakkuk argued with God who assured him that the just would live by faith through the time of trouble.
I wrote this hymn based on Habakkuk's prayer in chapter 3.
Based on Habakkuk 3.
1.
God above, we have heard
of your works in your Word,
now revive in our day
works of gospel power
in this needy hour.
In your wrath O Lord,
In your wrath O Lord,
In your wrath, yet in grace,
Lord remember mercy.
2.
When God came to the land
mighty power in your hand
all your tribes marched with you,
singing out your glory
as they told the story.
Mighty shouts of praise,
Mighty shouts of praise,
Shouts of praise filled the land,
made the heathen tremble.
3.
Christ by signs led the way;
fire by night, cloud by day,
mountain heights, depths below
could not stand before you,
nations fell before you.
So be warned, O earth,
So be warned, O earth,
So be warned all mankind,
God is in his temple.
4.
Nations now spurn your Laws;
all around, judgement falls,
your redeemed on you call,
keep us true & faithful;
trusting, praying, watchful.
May we watch and pray;
May we watch and pray;
Watch and pray every day,
for our Lord is coming.
5.
Evil men rule the lands;
they despise your commands;
plundering all the earth,
now the crops are failing
poverty prevailing.
Yet I will rejoice,
Yet I will rejoice,
I will joy in the Lord,
God of my salvation.

Written for a sermon on the prophecy of Habakkuk. Verses 2 & 3 sing of Habakkuk's recounting God bringing Israel into the promised land.
Verses 4 & 5 apply the song to our present situation.
