MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! from Blackbird and his wife and children!!!

We've been looking at the "Shepherd Boys" of Luke 2:8, "And there were in same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night."

Let me ask you a question!! Have you ever been invaded upon by the unseen world??? There is an unseen world out there, you know!! Not with "Space Men" and UFO's!! But with Spirit beings, angelic hosts---the part of creation that Jesus created that is "invisable!"

Well, I want you to notice what happens to the Shepherds in verse 9!!

"And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid."

Can you imagine what the shepherds must have thought in verse 9??

    "What's goin' on here?"
    "We've never seen as such!"
    "We've never heard as such!"

These Shepherds were being invaded upon by the unseen world! They were receiving a visit from the invisable world! They were being confronted upon by the very "DOXA" of God!! Heaven was coming down to Earth and God was just inviting these shepherds in on it!!!!!

Notice their response in verse 9 to the DOXA!!

    "And they were sore afraid."

That phrase, "sore afraid"---the word, "sore" comes from the Greek word, "Megas"---and the word, "afraid" comes from the Greek, "Phobos"

Megas Phobos!! In other words, "Not just a little bit afraid!!! But a whole lot!! To the point of being "beside" themselves!! They were as afraid as they have ever been before!!!

But notice what happens in verse 10!! They receive a command---"Fear not!!"

They were here receiving essentially an invitation from God!! God was saying to them

    "Come to Me!"
    "Come to Me!"

See, friend!! Christmas is Jesus Christ coming to us---so that we can come to Him!! Christmas is God dwelling "among us"---in order that we may "come to dwell among Him!"

Figure out how many times God offers us the invitation to---come to Him!!! Friend, THATS CHRISTMAS!!! Jesus---God in flesh---coming to us!! So that we can come to Him!!!

Figure this one out!! The Shepherds came to Him!! The Wise Men came to Him!! The priest, Simeon, came to Him! The prophetess, Anna, came to Him!!

Christmas is Him coming to us!!

But I like to think, too, that Jesus had His own little Christmas in mind!! His Christmas??? Him coming to us!!!

    Merry Christmas!!!

"Chistmas is Him coming to us!!"

Excellent point; all other religions involve man trying to reach God, this is the: "Climbing up another way."

Christianity is God's success in reaching us.
    Big difference!

Romans 11:35, “Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?”

It is impossible for us to put God in debt! Yet that is the way we continue to think - even after we become Christians. How are some of the ways we suppose that we can put God in debt?

    1. We do so when we think we have caught God is some fault! I can hear somebody say, “I’ve never done that!” “But every time we are critical of God or complain to God about something, we are telling Him indirectly, and sometimes quite directly, that we believe He has made a mistake and should correct it.” (Boice)

    Consider these statements:

“I think He made me too short. I should be taller.”

“Life would be better for me if I were only better-looking.”

“God has me stuck in a dead-end job, when I could be accomplishing something important. He should have given me opportunities I did not have or promotions that were given to someone else.”

“He made a mistake not giving me a husband.” Or, “... giving me the one I have.”

I suppose I could go on giving numerous other examples! When we think along these lines, we are actually saying (or thinking) that God lacks knowledge or wisdom, and that He should acknowledge His mistake and correct it, and perhaps thank us for setting Him straight. If you have thought that way, (and I include myself here) then you are saying that God is indebted to you, because you have supplied Him with a bit of wisdom or knowledge that He previously did not possess!

Let’s see what the Word has to say on this subject! Paul asks, “... who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? Job replies, “I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.” (Job 42:3)

    "The Shepherd's Watch"

Luke 2:8, "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night."

Those shepherds!!! Being invaded upon by the "unseen" world! Heaven coming down and inviting them to "get in on it!" God invites them to Bethleham to see the one wrapped in swaddling clothes who would save His people from their sins!!

I believe that it was by faith that they took God at His word!! Notice verse 15, "And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into Heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us."---they progress on toward Bethlehem---by faith--taking God at His word---there is the progression by faith!!!

Can you imagine the scene as they arrive?? God in swaddling clothes!! God in a manger!! And there these shepherds were---in the presence of God in flesh!! The progression by faith---into the very presence of God!!

Notice what transpires next!! A bold proclaimation!! Verse 17 & 18 tell us, "And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds."

Friend---you can get in on the glory of God today---just like those shepherd boys did centuries ago!!! Get into the word from the Word----and then take God at His word by faith!!! The end result will be a bold proclaimation to those who you come into contact with!! We've seen the face of God!!! How??? By faith---taking God at His word He gives us!! That word then becomes a living part of us and gives us our very life!!

    2. We do so when we think we have caught God in an injustice! This is a step farther than our last discussion. This step involves human pride and rebellion. Now we are accusing God of doing something that is not right! For example:

“It’s not right that I should be sick when my friends are all well.”

“It’s not right that she should have gotten the prize rather than myself. I worked harder for it.”

“It is not right for God to let me go on like this without answering my prayers as I would like or doing what I have repeatedly asked Him to do.”

When we find ourselves thinking along these lines, we need to remember Abraham and his discussion with God about the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot and his family lived in those cities, and if God destroyed those cities, He would also destroy Lot and his family. Remember Abraham’s pleading? “And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Gen 18:23-25)

This is a good text on the subject of persistent prayer. “The Judge of all the earth must do right.” (Boice) But the bottom line was that there were not even 10 righteous in the cities, there was perhaps only one righteous one is the city, and he was desperately backslidden! We can never argue with or put God in debt to us on the basis of justice. Justice only condemns - the cities were destroyed - totally blotted out. “Justice sends people to hell!” (Boice) We should never ask God for justice, we should plead for mercy and grace. Mercy and grace are the very opposite of debt.

If you think God owes you justice, please remember our text; “... who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?” “The only thing we have ever earned from God is condemnation.” (Boice)

It is impossible for us to put God in debt! Yet that is the way we continue to think - even after we become Christians. How are some of the ways we suppose that we can put God in debt?

    1. We do so when we think we have caught God is some fault!
    2. We do so when we think we have caught God in an injustice!

    3. We do so when we think we have obliged God by some service! Many Christians are under the mistaken notion that when we serve God - He owes us. The following occurrence happen while R.A. Torrey was in Melbourne, Australia. One afternoon while at a meeting for businessmen, a note was handed to him. It said,

    “Dear Dr. Torrey:

I am in great perplexity. I have been praying for a long time for something that I am confident is according to God’s will, but I do not get it. I have been a member of the Presbyterian Church for thirty years, and have tried to be a consistent one all that time. I have been Superintendent in the Sunday School for twenty-five years, and an elder in the church for twenty years; and yet God does not answer my prayer and I cannot understand it. Can you explain it to me?”

Dr. Torrey read the note from the platform, and replied, “It is very easy to explain it. This man thinks that because he has been a consistent church member for thirty years, a faithful Sunday School Superintendent for twenty-five years, and an elder in the church for twenty years, that God is under obligation to answer his prayer. He is really praying in his own name, and God will not hear our prayers when we approach Him in that way.”

After the meeting, a man came up to Dr. Torrey and admitted he had written the note. He said, “You have hit the nail square on the head. I see my mistake.”

Many of us have made the same mistake. The lesson we need to learn is that we cannot put God in our debt by anything we do or say. “Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?” The answer is, NO ONE! “Not event the most dedicated, most self-sacrificing, most consistent, most devout, most exemplary Christian. Nothing flows to us from God because of debt. A great deal comes to us, but it is all of grace, and grace is a different category entirely.” (Boice)

"The Care and Maintenance of Your New Year!"

2005!! I didn't think it'd ever get here!! But what's on your mind for 2005?? Any "New Year's" Resolutions??

    Loose weight?
    Stop spending so much?
    Pay off credit cards?
Spend more time with the children?

We could go on and on into oblivion--or at least until 2006---sporting "Resolutions!"

For the next two days---let me suggest a few

    1. AS A BELIEVER--RESOLVE TO: FORGET THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE BEHIND AND PRESS FORWARD

Philipians 3:13-14 says, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

Got anything in your past that you need to leave behind?? That you'd just as soon forget about??

Maybe some of us have some particular sin that needs to be confessed?? Did you know that there are two particular sins--two different types of sin in a Believer's life??

    1) There is Confessed sin!! 1John 1:9 teaches, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

A confessed sin---is always a forgiven sin! Those sins are place behind us!

    2) There is the Unconfessed Sin!!

I believe this sin is what the Hebrew writer describes as the one which "entangles" the Christian---notice Hebrews 12:1, "Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed abouit with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily beset us, and let us run the race that is set before us."

Notice the phrase, "the sin which so easily beset us . . ." You ever watch football---you'll sometimes notice how the Tailback takes the handoff from the Quarterback and starts runnin'!! He's runnin'---runnin'---runnin'---bouncein' off the big Defensive Linemen like they were made of rubber and he were made of grease!!! He gets out into the clear and starts "pourin' it on!!" Nothing between him and the goal line but that little "Free Safety!!" Suddenly--that Free Safety takes a "Nose Dive" and catches that Tailback by the feet---a "Shoe String" tackle!! He's made it look so easy!! He gets back into the huddle and tells the big, giant Defensive Linemen--"Now, that was easy! Why can't you guys do that??"

See, friend! Its not so much the "Big" sins that easily "Beset" us---throw us down!! Many of us don't have a problem with "Big" sins---if I were to ask you---"Are you gonna rob a bank this year??"---You'd say, "Man, Preacher! That ain't in me!!"

Those little sins---unforgiveness! Gossip! Backbiting! Slander! Those "unseen" sins---that we don't think amount to much---but like that little "Free Safety"---they prevent us from "going on" past the goal line and scoring a TD!! Whether the big sin grabs you around the head and twists you down to the ground---or whether the little sin grabs you around the feet---down is down!!! Isn't it!!

WE RESOLVE TO FORGET(CONFESS THOSE SINS) THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE BEHIND AND PRESS FORWARD TO WHO LIES AHEAD!!!!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

We looked last time at "Resolutions!" "Be it resolved . . ."

    Secondly,

AS BELIEVERS, RESOLVE TO WALK DAILY IN FELLOWSHIP WITH THE HEAVENLY FATHER

Notice ole Enoch in Genesis 5:22, "And Enoch walked with God after he begat Bethuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters."

Genesis 5 records the family tree of Seth who was Adam's third son and over 17 times in Genesis 5, the Bible records:

    And Adam lived
    And Seth lived
    And Enosh lived
    And Kenan lived
    And Jared lived
    And Enoch lived

If you scan over Genesis 5 you will be quick to discover that God is making a point--and His point is

"I have come that you might have life!!!"

For over 300 years Enoch walked with God and fellowshipped with God!!

    Question!

What's a sure fire way to know you are walking with God??

Luke 24:32 says that one way you'll know you are walking with God is---you'll get the "Heartburn on the Highway!! Listen to the words of Luke 24:32

"And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the scriptures?"

Let me let you in on how to walk with God---in 2005---Just like ole Enoch walked---and just like ole Cleopas(disciple on Emmaus Road) in their day

    1) There is the TALKING---the constant communication---we have by faith through prayer

"While He talked with us by the way"

See, friend! Prayer is us talking with God--but its also God talking with us!!

    2) There is the READING--the constant communication--we have by faith through Bible Study

"And while He opened to us the scriptures."

Ole Enoch walked with God---and "was not, because God took him"(Genesis 5:24)

Friend--in 2005--you can become a "was not" just like Enoch!! You can be "taken" by God!! When you walk by faith and not by sight---praying always in the spirit---with a mind pointed toward the scripture!!!!

Do not our hearts burn within us????

Romans 11:35, “Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?”

What have we learned from this verse? It is impossible to bring God down to our level! It is also impossible to make God answerable to us on any level. We are not wiser than God, we do not have more knowledge than God, and we cannot require anything of God because of our service to Him! What can we then do? Live the Christian life as God has planned for us to do! Then we can discover what living by grace is all about?

We must begin this walk in humility. God is infinitely great - and we are weak in service. Consider Jesus words in Luke 17:7-10, "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, `Come along now and sit down to eat'? Would he not rather say, `Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, `We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.'" (NIV) We must always remember that He is the Creator, and we are the created. He is the Master, and we are the servants.

Jesus also told His disciples, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. “ (John 15:15) He also said, “You are my friends if you do what I command.” (Ver 14) “God owes us nothing. All is of grace. But God, for the sake of His own good pleasure, has rescued us from our sin and has raised us from the status of mere servants to being sons and daughters of God, co-workers with Jesus Christ and heirs of all God is and has.” (Boice)

That leads us to thanksgiving to and love for the One who has been so gracious to us. It also leads to service. Though we cannot put God in debt to us - we do receive God’s favor by grace. “Let me say it again: God is not obliged to give you anything. Yet He gives you everything, if you will receive it in Christ. The great wonder is that the people who know this, who know they cannot give God anything that He has not first given them, nevertheless give Him everything.” (Boice)

    Adapted from “Romans” by Boice.

    In Christ,
    Dan Todd

    Have a blessed New Year!

Thanks Dan. I am well aware that I deserve only one thing from God and that is hell.
Only by His grace and mercy do I have any standing whatsoever.

    "Come Alive in 2005!!!"

New Year's Resolutions??? For me, already "out the window!" Didn't last long!! Not much of a chance!!

Now, how about a REAL resolution??? One we can grasp and its principals grasps us back!! One that will make our spirits "come alive in 2005!!! Its found right here in our text for today---on through this week---the first week of being alive in 2005!!

Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Not one of us can predict our 2005! None of us knows where we will wind up at its end!! I heard the story told of Christopher Columbus setting sail to "cross the ocean blue!" Compasses and sexton's were crude back then! No satelite positioning stations would come along for centuries!!!!

But the course was charted and layed out by Columbus and the sails were set!!

Just as they sailed over the western horizon and Spain was no longer in view---several of the sailors began to be horrorfied---"We're lost! We're lost!"

Word gets back to Captain Columbus---"What do we do??? We're lost!!"

Columbus, with as cool a head as the ocean underneath him was blue----barks an order---

    "STEADY AS SHE GOES, HELM!!"

You see, Captain Columbus had a course charted and in his mind he could see the course's destination!

Friend, in 2005---the Lord Jesus Christ is giving each of us a "course heading" with this verse

    1)SEEK FIRST GOD'S RULESHIP
"Seek ye first the kingdom of God"

This verse seems to have something to do with priorities! You've heard the saying, "You've got to get your priorities straight!"

Colossians 3:1 says, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the Right hand of God."

The Kingdom of God is a priority! A priority to a person! "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God." See it there???

There can only be one ruler in your life! If there's more than one ruler---what you really have is a conspirecy---and your life will begin to founder on Life's ocean like a ship in a High Seas Storm!!!

The first course set for 2005 is The Ruleship of God! When you get out in the year---with about half the year behind you and the other half ahead of you---and something comes up to make you panic and say

    "We're lost!!"

Remember the ruleship of God and you'll hear God say in that "still small voice"---

    "Steady as She goes, Helm!"

Romans 11:36, “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”

Let’s take a look at the Christian World-View! Let’s hope that the phrase “Christian World-View” is not merely another “Buzz-Word!” We use buzz words all the time. A few examples might be:

In psychology - Freudian slip and guilt complex.
In politics - Reaganomics, talking points, and spin doctors.
In education - political correctness, whole language (what ever that is!), and new math (again, what ever that it!).
In computer technology - IT, input, output, and downtime.
In business - bottom line, bullish or bearish, and market driven.

Boice writes, “One of my favorites is ‘paradigm shift.’ A paradigm is a complete model or pattern, originally referring to a list of all the inflectional forms of a verb or noun, showing its complete conjugation or declension. A paradigm shift is a total reordering of how one looks at or evaluates something.” A couple of examples:

If you love someone or something - and then for some reason stop loving that someone or something and begin to hate them - that is a paradigm shift. If you start your political life as a liberal Democrat (like Teddy from Mass.) and then become a conservative Republican (like the late Ronald Reagan) - it would be a paradigm shift of great proportions.

Do you know what the greatest paradigm shift of all time would be? It would be the day you placed your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life! Before salvation - in our unregenerate state - everything revolves around ourselves. “We are the measure of all things. Everything in the universe is for us and for our glory.” (Boice) But when we become Christians, we begin to see the world is actually from God, and is governed by God, and that it exists for only one purpose - to bring glory to Him. That is exactly what the apostle is telling us in our text.

The last song that the British group, the Beatles, recorded before they broke up was “I, Me, Mine.” That is the song of the unregenerate heart. Contrast that song with the song of the redeemed - our text, “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” The contrast is significant and radical!

    Adapted from “Romans” by Boice.

    "Come Alive in 2005!"

Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you."

We're talking about setting priorities in this new year---coming alive in 2005!!! We've looked already at the ruleship of God! There can only be one ruler in your life---more than one and what you wind up with is a conspiracy!!

    Second---SEEK GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS

"Righteousness" comes from the Greek word, Dikalosune---which means "a conformity to a higher authority"

Romans 12:1-2 says, "I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is yuor reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God."

Remember reading in the book of Daniel---those 3 Hebrew boys?? Shadrack, Meshak, and Abednigo?? Standing before the King?? Here's what they said to the King about God's rule and righteousness

O King, listen! We may burn to a crisp---but we want you to know---we bow down to a greater authority--a higher authority than yours--and we will not bow to the world's image!!

John MacAuthor writes, "Seeking God's righteousness is more than longing for something ethreal and future; it is also longing for something present and practical."

Jesus says that Born Again Believers will have a "built in thirst" for the righteousness of God!

I believe---we're standing here in the year 2005---with the Lord Jesus Christ desiring to give us something from Heaven! I believe He has a desire to give to us---to impart to us---His righteousness from Heaven!! He wants to shape us into His image! He wants us to conform and be transformed so that you and I can go out into the year 2005---and mold and shape the world we live in---until the world we live in is "ship shape!"

The king wanted the Hebrew boys to bow down to a lesser image! The Hebrew boys balked and instead bowed their knees to the supreme Lord Almighty who met them in that fiery furnace!

Who knows?? 2005 might bring you to a fiery furnace---lets plan on going in--under the supreme ruleship of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Romans 11:36, “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”

Those people who think that the world revolves around them, and/or think that mankind is the only valid measure of all that we are, are “secular humanists.” This buzz word is used by fundamentalists and tel-evangelists with predictable regularity. While secular humanism is a dangerous enemy, it is not the only enemy we face, nor is it a new enemy. This enemy may be traced back to Cain and his disobedience in choosing the incorrect sacrifice. “It is the ... natural inclination of the unsaved heart and mind.” (Boice)

Perhaps the best statement of secular humanism is found in Daniel 4:30, “The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?” Nebuchadnezzar was the king, and as he looked out over his capital city, he was greatly impressed with himself.

God saw things a bit differently than did Nebuchadnezzar. In fact, God judged this mighty king for his secular humanistic attitude. “ While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.” (Vers 31-33)

Nebuchadnezzar remained insane until he acknowledged that God ruleth all. “And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellers and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me. Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.” (Vers 34-37)

“Anyone who thinks he or she is the center of the universe is spiritually insane. A person who thinks like this is out of his or her mind.” (Boice)

Thanks Dan. I have always regarded Mormonisn as "Humanism run amok." They say:
"As we are, God once was, as God is, man can become."
Sadder than that is folks who think they are already there!

Romans 11:36, “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”

If secular humanism is not new - what is new? The regenerate mind is new! Paul talks about the regenerate mind in Romans 12:1-2, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

The regenerate mind thinks about things differently. “But specifically how? What form does a renewed mind take? Or, to express it differently, what is a genuinely Christian world-view?” (Boice)

    A. W. Tozer writes about this in “The Pursuit of God.” In the chapter called “Restoring the Creator-Creature Relation,” Tozer writes:

“The moment we make up our minds that we are going on with this determination to exalt God over all we step out of the world’s parade. We shall find ourselves out of adjustment to the ways of the world, and increasingly so as we make progress in the holy way. We shall acquire a new viewpoint; a new and different psychology will be formed within us; a new power will begin to surprise us by its upsurgings and its outgoings.

“Our break with the world will be the direct outcome of our changed relation to God. For the world of fallen men does not honor God. Millions call themselves by His name, it is true, and pay some token respect to Him, but a simple test will show how little He is really honored among them. Let the average man be put to the proof on the question of who is above, and his true position will be exposed. Le me be forced into making a choice between God and money, between God and men, between God and personal ambition, God and self, God and human love, and God will take second place every time. Those other things will be exalted above. However the man may protest, the proof is in the choices he makes day after day throughout life.

“‘Be thou exalted’ is the language of victorious spiritual experience. It is the little key to unlock the door to great treasures of grace.”

Romans 11:36, “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”

Our text gives us a concise definition of the Christian world-view! Paul has written several other verses that are similar in content:

1 Corinthians 8:6, “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”

Ephesians 4:4-6, “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

Colossians 1:16, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.”

During the next couple of devotionals, we will look at this verse in the light of two specific areas:

    1. God and Creation,
    2. God and the Gospel.

We are easily dissuaded from putting God in the central place in our lives and our culture. He must be first - first in all things. If He is not the God of creation - as Genesis tells us He is - then he is not god at all. If He is not the God of salvation - as the entire Bible tells us He is - then he is not god at all.

God must be who He claims to be - or he is not god at all. Friend - never let anyone persuade you from this fast adherence to God and who He claims to be in His Word.

    Thanks Dan. You said:

"If He is not the God of creation - as Genesis tells us He is - then he is not god at all."
Do "Theistic Evolutionist's" then make God into what He is not? (Have a false image of God, and thereby they have a false god?)
This could step on a lot of toes here, and maybe I should have asked this by pm. I wonder what you think here. As for me, I feel that you when you take away an attribute of God, such as, The Creator of everything from nothing, or that God is pretty good in His knowledge of the past and present, but doesn't know the future (open theism), one is making god into what he wants him to be, not Who He truly is.
