Color of BB background

Thankful

<img src=/BettyE.gif>
Is there a way to change the color of the Baptist Board background?

All the background on my computer for the BB is a glaring white which makes my eyes very tired.

Ed's computer has alternating colors for each post (white and light blue.) I would be happy with that, but I can't find any place to change the background.

Mozilla Firefox: Tools, Options, General, Fonts & colors, Text and Background. Make your choice and be sure that "use system colors" is UN-checked. click "OK" back thru the menus.

IE: Tools, Internet Options, General, Colors. Make your choice and be sure that "use windows colors" is UN-checked. Click "OK" back thru the menus & you should be in business.

Good luck!

Didn't change the colors on Baptist Board for me and didn't say I needed to reboot.

Thankful, go to Tools, Internet Options, General, Accessibility and make sure NO OPTIONS ARE CHECKED. That being checked will force all white pages.

Ok, this is really a mystery.

Just for Peace, I have tried that and that doesn't work.

Diane, I don't have anything marked and my pages are white. I can set a color and check those boxes and the color of the background will change, but then all the fonts change also and then I lose all the dividing lines.

Ed's computer has the same settings, but the display is different.

I guess I am going to have to be content with white pages. The glare is really terrific.

Just for Peace, do I need to reboot?

I appreciate your help. I have been playing with this for two days now.

Do you and hubby have identical computers and operating systems? This IS odd! I've love to have the light blue or anything but the gray. I tried changing contrast, etc.

Found it Thankful. On your MONITOR, there is a little disc or some adj. for contrast and brightness. If you press each side, you'll finally see a menu of many choices. You can get to the little color pallet and adjust the colorings there. Mine is now all a pale gray instead of white. There's a LOT of choices but only red, yellow and blue to work with.

I have an HP, she has a Compaq. These were made
before they joined

We have the same operating system: XP.

The first thing she tryed was the Flat Screen
adujstments for contrast/brightness - nothing.

That was it!
The brightness was not enough and the
constast was too much. So with less contrast
one can see the difference between the two
colors. Thank you Sister Diane. You

Thanks Diane. I haven't found anything that will change the colors, but I did restore the grey-blue color and that really is much easier on my eyes.

Mine just has adjustments for brightness and contrast. I had set it to the default settings and that didn't work, but when I reduced the contrast to 0 then the colors returned.

Amazing!

Thankful

Talked too soon. I found the color. I had tried that earlier on and it didn't change anything. I'm happy with the blue-grey.

Thanks.

Thank you for helping Sibling Just-want-peace. If enough
people help, maybe somebody can figure
out the problem?

For Firefox Users:

1. Go to tools...options...

2. click on Fonts and Colors button in the General tab,

3. Click on the Background button and choose your color.

4. Now, leave the "use system colors" UNCHECKED unless you want your background to be the same as your system's background* (see below for an alternative)

5. CHECK the "always use colors" box.

6. Click OK (or whatever verification button you have) close and refresh (F5 button) the page.

Your colors should look like the one you chose, BUT the ENTIRE PAGE will be that color, not the individual boxes.

**********************************************

*AN ALTERNATIVE would be to change your system colors first and use this to change your background.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR SYSTEM COLORS:

1. In Windows 2000, ME, 98: you right-click on an empty area on your desktop and select Properties.

2. Then under the Appearance tab, in the Item box scroll down and find "Window". A color box will appear with the color your normal window (such as Notepad) would be. Change this color by clicking on the color box and select the color of your choice.

3. Then Go to tools...options...

4. In the General tab above click on "Fonts and Colors" button, and SELECT BOTH "Use system colors" AND "always use colors".

5. Close out the dialogue, refresh and you should have your colored background.

I'm not sure how to change your system colors in WinXP, but I believe you do the same as above, right-click the desktop, find "Color scheme" and find a color dropdown box (according to my distorted memory of my FIL's computer). You want to change the WINDOW color, if Billy hasn't prevented WinXPers from doing so.

If I'm wrong and an XPer knows how to do this, please enlighten us.

*********************************************

For Internet Explorer users

1. You have to change your Windows system color (specifically the window color (see above)). Once you've changed your Windows system colors,

2. Go to Tools in the Internet Explorer toolbar (look up)

3. Click on Internet Options

4. Under the General Tab, click on "Colors..." button at the bottom and check the "use Windows colors" box.

5. Click OK

6. NOW...you're not done YET, so DON'T CLOSE OUT THE OPTIONS. You have to go into "Accessability..." button (same place the "Colors..." button is) and check "Ignore colors specified on web page".

7. Clike ok, Click ok, refresh (F5) and you should have your window.

Mine is bright red just to make sure I'm instructing you correctly and I'm going blind.

BBy the way, I hope I'm not out of line here. I used to LOVE Internet Explorer and would not use any other browser simply because no other browser would match the keyboard shortcuts that I had grown to love.

I've found Mozilla Firefox (clickable link) to be a really good alternative to Internet EExplorer because it doesn't have the bugs IE has. It can also block all the annoying popups that are almost impossible to get away from while using IE. So, I've switched to Mozilla Firefox permanently.

One of my favorite keyboard shortcuts is using the F11 key to get rid of all the browser buttons. In IE, you can rightclick the remaining tool buttons and select "autohide", that leaves the entire screen for web viewing, but this options doesn't seem available in Firefox. Although, you can drag buttons off of the toolbar leaving only the address bar, which isn't so bad. But, the missing autohide feature seems to be my only gripe so far.

I still use Outlook Express, since I like their system but ya can't have it all.

Oh, if you decide to make Firefox your default browser, open Windows Explorer (hold down the Start key and hit the E key( the start key has a window on it, between ctrl and alt on the left).

Go to Tools...Folder Options...File types and find HTM, HTML, HTW, HTY IHTML (if all exist in your files) and change the file to Firefox. If you have icons, beside the filetypes, simply scroll to find all IE icons and change the file to Firefox.

I like browser Firefox too, nobodyspecial, mostly because of the pop-up blocker. I'm a Mac user and browser Safari does the same thing, so I alternate between the two browsers.

Thanks for the info above ...

No problem, PJ. Hope it was helpful.

The popup blocker is my main purpose, also. My internet connection (cox) has one, but it conflicts with my computer. You can find other downloads, but I wouldn't be surprised if they contained hidden spyware. I'm very careful about where I go and what I download. "There's no such thing as a free lunch"
